Developer Urges Using Help to Buy For Slough Apartments

Developer Slough Urban Renewal is urging purchasers to consider the Help to Buy scheme at Novus Apartments...

Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), the developer behind the successful Novus Apartments scheme in the Berkshire town, is urging house-hunters to act now to take advantage of this pivotal homebuying scheme.

In just over a year, the government’s Help to Buy scheme, now open only to first-time buyers, is due to come to an end. The scheme, which first launched in April 2013, has helped thousands of would-be homeowners step onto the property ladder and own their own home.

By enabling purchasers to buy with as little as a 5% deposit and supporting them with a government loan of up to 20% of the purchase price (this goes up to 40% in London), the scheme has eased the costs for many buyers struggling to secure a large enough deposit, or to meet strict lending criteria.

To date, all of SUR’s residential developments have offered this scheme to its purchasers. At Milestone in Chalvey, the company’s first development, 78% of purchasers opted to use Help to Buy. At the second development, Wexham Green, a collection of 104 family homes on the outskirts of the town, 50% of purchasers used it. Now at Novus Apartments, the scheme has yet again proved invaluable – with 60% of buyers to date choosing Help to Buy to assist them with their purchase.

One Novus Apartments purchaser said: “I wouldn’t have been able to purchase a new home without the government Help to Buy scheme. It has meant that I have been able to move out of rented and into a home of my own.”

If you are looking to step onto the property ladder and you think you will need Help to Buy to enable you to purchase, now is the time to act. To take advantage of the scheme, you will need to have completed on your purchase on or before 31 March 2023 – so keep this in mind if you are thinking of buying off-plan.

Help to Buy is currently available across all homes at Novus Apartments, and they are ready to move in to now, which means you could be settled into your new home for this spring.
