Only Three Left At First-Time Buyer-Friendly Croydon Scheme

Posted 9 November 2020 by Keith Osborne

An apartment development in South Croydon is nearly sold out, with most buyers purchasing their first home...

Located just off a tree lined residential road in South Croydon is Tilbury Lodge, an apartment development which has just three units remaining for sale and where 95% of buyers are taking a first step on the property ladder.

Tilbury Lodge is a collection of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments providing fantastic commuter connections into central London and access to an array of open green spaces and local amenities on the doorstep. Buyers have found the availability of the London Help to Buy scheme very useful, as it requires a deposit of 5% of the price and a mortgage of 55%, the balance provided by a government equity loan which is interest free for five years. The remaining units are all two-bedroom properties on the second floor, with prices ranging from £460,000 to £495,000.

Heidi Rhodes, new homes partner at agent Barnard Marcus, commented: “Tilbury Lodge is definitely a desirable place to be, and with just a few apartments remaining and the Help to Buy deadline running out we urge interested parties to book a viewing.”

Greg Kaye, sales director at Shanly Homes, said: “Tilbury Lodge is situated within a fantastic location and it’s not surprising that homes here are being snapped up. The development is well positioned to access all that the local area has to offer, as well as central London. For buyers who want to be within touching distance of all the capital has to offer but prefer the lifestyle of suburbia, Tilbury Lodge is sure to tick many boxes.”

Mattheus Sookoo, a buyer at Tilbury Lodge, remarked: “My Grandad had agreed to help me with a deposit, so when I found the right apartment, I gave him a call and we booked a viewing at Tilbury Lodge. With his assistance and the 40% Help to Buy scheme I was able to secure the home I wanted, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to purchase a property in the local area without the help of the scheme and my family.”

All apartments have been designed to suit a range of lifestyles. Large open-plan kitchen/living/dining rooms come complete with integrated Siemens and Zanussi appliances and sizeable windows ensure the space is flooded with natural light year-round. Many properties further benefit from private outside space in the form of a patio or balcony.

Locally, residents are also well catered for. South Croydon itself benefits from plenty of restaurants including Zizzi, Aqua Bar and Grill, and Yumn Brasserie which are all a short walk from home. Croham Hurst Woods, Croham Hurst Golf Club, Bramley Bank, Lloyd Park and Coombe Wood provide ample opportunity for residents to get outside are all a short distance from Tilbury Lodge, perfect for buyers looking for a new weekend activity.

Just a three-minute train journey, or an eight-minute car ride away, is East Croydon, where residents will find Centrale Shopping Centre home to Zara, Next and Primark and The Whitgift Centre home to Topshop, Waterstones, Superdry and Marks and Spencer amongst others. Cinema goers can enjoy a night at the movies at Vue Cinema and foodies will be pleased with the restaurants on offer, including Nandos, Five Guys, Wagamama and BOXPARK.

Commuters are well placed at Tilbury Lodge thanks to the superb train connections at South Croydon station (Zone 5), reaching London Bridge in under 40 minutes. The scheme further benefits from private onsite parking and a car club membership, with residents having access to an electric car which is based outside of the development. The M25 is just eight miles away providing homeowners with access to the wider motorway network, while those who travel abroad for business or pleasure can reach Gatwick Airport in just 30 minutes via car.
