Rightsize To Find Ideal Home

Posted 7 July 2022 by Helen Christie

Newland Homes is advising househunters to “channel their inner Goldilocks” when looking for a new home, in order to find a property that is just right for them…

When it comes to househunting, a particular set of qualities have to be included in the mix in order to find a home that meets your requirements.

“Every household is different, so we don’t have a one size fits all approach to the types of homes we build. Rightsizing essentially means moving into a home that suits your current needs, befitting of you and your way of life, and it’s not just about size” explains Newland Homes’ sales and marketing director, Marcus Evans. “It could be a similar sized home that’s configured differently to your current one, giving you the sociable kitchen diner that you’ve always hankered for.  Or perhaps a larger home, but with much lower running costs.”

One couple who have chosen to rightsize to secure their ideal lifestyle is Paige Rutherford and Adam Pallister. They initially hadn’t planned to move out of Bristol, where they both work, but then they found Claverham, which is “perfect” according to Paige.  “I’ve always thought myself a bit of a city girl, but it’s great to have moved away and taken a step back. We’re surrounded by open fields with sheep and lambs, and at night time we can sit in the garden and see the stars. I love it!”

The couple were originally searching for a three-bedroom home but reconsidered their requirements once they saw the Shipton house type at Court de Wyck in Claverham, by Newland Homes. “We absolutely loved the size of the Shipton. It’s a really big two-bedroom home. The layout works really well and the rooms are a good size. The spare bedroom easily doubles up as both a guest space and a work from home space, with ample room for a desk and double bed so it still feels like a bedroom environment,” says Paige.

The detached homes at Court de Wyck have solar panels, generating electricity from cleaner, renewable sources. Marcus believes that in the current economic and environmental climate “consideration of running costs and carbon impact are vital ingredients when choosing a new home as people re-evaluate their outgoings and lifestyle. Rightsizing is tailored to the individual, you have to make the move that’s right for you.”

This is supported by Adam: “Some of the homes at Court de Wyck are wired ready for electric vehicle charging in the future, which we’re lucky to have on ours. With the Bristol Clean Air Zone, I’m thinking about trading in my diesel car for an electric car, so it’s good to have this infrastructure to connect up to already in place.”

Court de Wyck by Newland Homes is situated in a unique historic setting in Claverham, centred around the Grade-II listed Court de Wyck Georgian manor house and its former chapel, as well as the walls of a 14th century Tithe Barn.  In total, there are 10 different housetypes across the development, all individually designed, some detached, semi-detached and terraced, some stone fronted and others with render, to provide plenty of choice to buyers.  Since launching at the beginning of last year, the development has proven extremely popular and the final few homes are now available to purchase.

A two-bedroom Shipton house, like Paige and Adam’s, is currently available at Court de Wyck for £339,000, or £271,200 under the government-backed Help to Buy scheme, which helps first-time buyers get on the property ladder.

To book a tailor-made appointment at Court de Wyck to see the remaining homes on offer please call 01934 331809.
