As the world celebrates the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) this Bank Holiday weekend, some UK housebuilders have announced a range of special offers to thank Armed Forces who are searching for a new home.

Barratt Developments

The current WhatHouse? Housebuilder of the Year has announced a new Armed Forces Deposit Contribution Scheme to help Armed Forces personnel get on or up the housing ladder. The scheme is available to all UK Armed Forces personnel who are currently employed by the Army, Navy or RAF, or who have left in the past 12 months, and offers a 5% deposit contribution towards any new Barratt or David Wilson home.

The scheme will become available to all eligible customers on Friday 8 May, VE Day. The introduction of the new scheme acts as a thank you to all those serving in the Armed Forces, as the world looks back during one time of crisis to another and remembers VE Day.

David Thomas, chief executive of Barratt Developments, said: “We have chosen to mark VE Day with a special thank you to all those serving in the Armed Forces. As a proud Armed Forces employer and long-standing supporter of the RBLI, we take our commitment to the Armed Forces very seriously and we look forward to helping them even more through this new scheme.”

Hayfield

Hayfield is launching an Armed Forces Discount Scheme, with £5,000 off the purchase price of selected Hayfield homes, across all live developments in the counties of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire to all those eligible. The scheme is open to serving Armed Forces, Reserve Forces, HM Armed Forces Veterans (ex-serving), MoD Civil Servants, War/Service widowers, and UK-based NATO Personnel.

The Government’s Force’s Help to Buy initiative can be used in conjunction with this offer, which enables servicemen and servicewomen to borrow up to 50% of their salary (to a maximum of £25,000), interest free, to help buy their first home, move to another property on assignment, or as their family needs change. Alternatively, the new offer could be used with the regular Help to Buy scheme.

Kelly Sharman, sales and marketing director of Hayfield said “While our plans to commemorate the 1940s milestones with the Stanton Harcourt [Oxfordshire development on a former RAF airfield] community are currently on hold, launching an Armed Forces Discount Scheme is something we are delighted to be able to do. This new initiative will now be available across our development portfolio.
