Posted 16 December 2022 by Keith Osborne

Well-known antiques expert David Harper spoke to residents and guests as he offically launched Elderton Place...

BBC TV antiques expert David Harper has visited Whitley Bay to officially open a new retirement community in the town, setting his seal of approval on the Elderton Place Retirement Living Plus development by McCarthy Stone.

He was joined by current and prospective homeowners for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to begin the launch celebrations at the development on Coquet Avenue. Homeowners and guests thoroughly enjoyed a talk from David where he shared more about his life and career, as well as telling them more about the background of their own treasured possessions.

Louise Flynn, divisional marketing manager at McCarthy Stone, said: “It was fantastic to have David come along to officially open Elderton Place, which provides a unique brand of retirement living combining maximum independence for those over 70, with tailored support when and where needed.

“All of the homeowners and guests really enjoyed meeting David, learning more about his fascinating life and work, as well as receiving his insight and advice about their own antique possessions and finds.”

More than a third of the 65 luxury retirement apartments are already occupied at Elderton Place, where homeowners can enjoy on-site facilities including a bistro serving a variety of tasty and healthy meals, a beautiful large lounge offering the chance to make new friends, and a hotel-style guest suite allowing homeowners to invite friends or family for an overnight getaway.

The development can be found in the heart of Whitley Bay, near the beach and harbour area. Local attractions include St Mary’s Lighthouse, built on its own island, with a nature reserve and wetland habitat. There is much to explore slightly further afield too, in the form of Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

One-bedroom apartments at Elderton Place are available for purchase from £248,999 and two-bedroom homes from £301,999. Apartments can also be rented or occupied on a part-buy, part-rent. Find out more from McCarthy Stone.

A Guide To Part Buy Part Rent
With Home Reach you buy a share of your chosen newly built home and pay a monthly rent on the part you don’t buy. Your budget will decide the size of the share you buy, rather than the size of your home. So, you might decide to buy a bigger share of a lower priced home or a smaller share of a more expensive home.
