Name Of Upcoming Kent Retirement Development Revealed

Keith OsborneA new retirement development coming soon to Dunton Green is to be named in homage to the village’s rich heritage.
WhatHouse? Award-winning McCarthy Stone, a developer and manager of retirement communities, has revealed the name of its forthcoming development on Mill Road as Corn Mill Place. The unique name is a nod to the 18th-century corn mill, Longford Mill, which formerly occupied the land on which the new development is being built.
In 1930, a lido – known locally as the ‘lagoon’ – was built at the mill and was enjoyed by villagers for 22 years. Fast-forward almost a century and the site will continue to bring joy, with it providing the place for an independent and active lifestyle for local retirees.
Alongside the naming reveal, McCarthy Stone has also released a new artists impression of the development, giving a glimpse of the attractive facilities and amenities on offer.
Designed specifically to meet the needs of the over-60s, the new addition to Mill Road will offer a mix of one- and two-bedroom low-maintenance apartments along with landscaped gardens and communal spaces. There’s a well-appointed lounge and guest suite for when friends and family come to stay. A 24/7 emergency call system and door-camera entry will give homeowners reassurance that help is never far away, while a house manager will be on-site during office hours to oversee the running of the development.
The development is also ideally located close to Dunton Green village centre, as well as a traditional pub and superstore. Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve is also just a five-minute drive away.
Sam Burley, divisional sales director for McCarthy Stone, said: “At McCarthy Stone, we believe we don’t just have a role to play in helping retirees to live happier, healthier lives, but also in supporting and positively integrating into the communities in which we build. We thought it was only fitting given the rich history of the site to honour this in the naming of our new community, and we plan to work alongside local historical groups in the future to see how else we can best represent and celebrate some of this important heritage as part of the design of the development.”
