Downsizing Advice Event Coming To Windsor Retirement Scheme
Specialist developer Castle Retirement is hosting a special event to explain ‘downsizing’ in later life and simplify moving home and its Castle View scheme in Windsor on Thursday 14 April.
Taking place between 2.00pm and 3.00pm at the development on Helston Lane, it will explain the challenges of downsizing - or ‘rightsizing’ as some prefer to call it – which can be faced by people as they reach that older stage in life.
As we grow older our accommodation needs change, but typically after years of living in the same home surrounded by our treasured possessions, familiarity which once reassured us and made us feel safe and comfortable becomes more of a trap and makes moving difficult. But most people eventually realise – or their grown-up children realise for them! – that their current house and garden is becoming too much to cope with, and that moving to a smaller, more manageable home would provide a better, less-stressful living environment.
To help in just this situation, this advice event on the topic of downsizing in retirement living is being hosted at the new retirement village in Windsor. Several independent speakers will cover a range of subjects:
- Nathan Kapoor of Charles Coleman, on choice of solicitors
- Richard Horler on choosing an estate agent
- Steve Shaw on Part Exchange
- Amanda Fyfe, a downsizing specialist
- Harry Ballin of Windsor Auctions
- Chris Johnson of Frontline Solutions about removals
One of the new apartment owners who has successfully moved home and will also offer some personal insights on the downsizing process.
The event will be complemented by some light refreshments and there will be the opportunity to take a first-hand look around some apartments afterwards.
“It’s very easy to put off the conversation about downsizing, but no matter how fit and healthy you are now, age will eventually catch-up with you and mobility could become an issue,” said Ruth Wilson, who is organising the event at Castle View. “It is all so much easier when you are that bit younger or have some assistance, so the message has to be not to put it off until it’s too late.”
