CALA Homes introduces affordable apartments in Currie, Edinburgh

Posted 4 November 2016 by Keith Osborne

The luxury housebuilder CALA Homes is offering local homebuyers the chance to bag a high-quality new homes for a considerable discount...

Former WhatHouse? Awards Housebuilder of the Year CALA Homes has introduced a new collection of nine apartments in the Edinburgh suburb of Currie under an affordable homes scheme that allows buyers 100% ownership for an 80% purchase price.

Under the ‘Golden Share’ initiative, the apartments at Kinleith Mill, close to the Pentland Hills on the south-west outskirts of the Scottish capital, are on the market now with a 20% discount, with buyers then selling on later with a 20% discount to pass the benefit onto the next owner.

A local connection is part of the terms and conditions of the Golden Share initiative, and four of the nine apartments available under the scheme have already been sold to eligible purchasers. These two-bedroom properties are priced at £185,000.

Stala Thomson, sales manager at CALA Homes (East), says: “This is a fantastic opportunity for many house-hunters who have a connection with the Lothians, through employment, family or cultural ties, as it allows prospective buyers, especially first-timers, to secure their ideal property – without believing it to be out of their reach.

“The reputation of CALA has been built on the quality of the homes we deliver and that is what these buyers will be getting – complete with the full CALA customer care package.”

The design of these properties, located close to the Waters of Leith, is based on traditional mills, reflecting the heritage of the area, with the use of red brick and iron railings echoing the materials of historic buildings in the area. Currie is now a well-connected suburb, with direct road and rail links to the city centre and the benefits of its own amenities and an adjacent Regional Park.

“Currie is ideally positioned with everything a homeowner would want within reach, but it’s the tranquil lifestyle this well connected, but semi-rural development offers that really separates it from the rest,” adds Thomson. “This truly is a chance for first-time buyers looking to climb onto and for those trying to take the next step up the property ladder to do so in a popular location; the volume of interest has been very high so far and we expect this to grow.”

For buyers who may not be able to benefit from this batch of affordable new homes, a further nine apartments and four terraced homes will be released towards the end of 2017.
