Housebuilder’s Limited Availability For 2021 In East Scotland
Competitive mortgage rates and the rise in home-working have fuelled a homebuying frenzy during the pandemic, so much so that Barratt Homes East Scotland is reporting a very limited availability of homes which will be ready to move into in 2021.
The housebuilder, one of the largest in the UK, only has around 40 homes across the entire region to move into this year. Gilmerton Heights in the south of Edinburgh has seven homes left available, and DWH @ Heritage Grange has three. Other developments like Lime Grove and Kingslaw Gait are down to their final few and some developments have proven especially popular and are reporting sell-outs for this year.
As restrictions started to loosen up and prospective buyers moved to snap up limited government-backed incentives like the First Home Fund, the company experienced a rush in demand during the first months of this year. And although the First Home Fund has closed for applications, the Barratt Developments itself continues to offer incentives to help buyers move into new homes, whether this year or next.

Thanks to an arrangement with Edinburgh City Council, Barratt Homes has unveiled a range of ‘Golden Share’ properties at Barratt @ Heritage Grange. Golden Share offers qualifying buyers the opportunity to snap up a home at only 80% of its market value.
Anne Ross, sales director for Barratt Homes East Scotland said: “It certainly does appear that one of the most popular pandemic purchases has been a new home. A big trend that we have seen over the past year is that people are looking to move for more space. More space within the home, perhaps somewhere with a new garden or even a home that is outside of the city centre and more suburban and closer to the countryside.
“With such an expansive and varied offering across the region, it’s no wonder that house buyers have found what they’re looking for in Barratt Homes. We’re going to continue delivering five-star homes at our current developments, and some new upcoming developments – like Merchant Quay – to meet the demand that we’re seeing.
“Despite the continued economic uncertainties, the housing market remains attractive. There is strong demand for new homes and we are well positioned to deliver the high-quality sustainable homes and developments that Scotland needs. With such limited availability across east Scotland, we encourage prospective buyers that are looking to make a move this year to get in touch with our expert teams sooner rather than later.”
Sales centres for Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes are open by appointment only and in addition to in-person viewings, sales teams can offer phone and virtual appointments.
