Launch Of Development In Bedhampton
Bargate Homes has opened the doors to its £18.2million St Thomas’ Mead development, located in the scenic suburb of Old Bedhampton, Hampshire.
Over 50% of the 50 eco-efficient homes have already sold off-plan. St Thomas’ Mead is located off Lower Road, close to Langstone Harbour and comprises a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses, a bungalow, and chalet bungalows. There are just 35 private homes at the highly popular scheme remaining for sale, with prices ranging from £300,000 to £625,000. The homes are constructed to EPC-B standards, enabling purchasers to benefit from Green Mortgage rates.
To coincide with the first tranche of homes being ready for occupation, a four-bedroom detached show home, styled by Bargate Homes and The Garden Society, has been unveiled. It has a redbrick design featuring extensive brick detailing and a timber-framed roofed entrance. The interior exudes a contemporary style with a neutral palette of tonal whites and beiges, accented with pops of vibrant colour, such as a deep aubergine purple sofa in the living room. Texture has been added throughout with grassy and leafy plants, throws and cushions which feature a contrast of sharp and curved lines, and a variety of geometric patterns.
A standout feature of the show home is the kitchen, with blush pink shaker cabinetry, contrasting white quartz worktops, and a large kitchen island. Along the back of the house are large French doors, which open onto the garden to bring the outside in and flood the reception rooms with light. Accessed off the kitchen is a spacious utility room, furnished with the same fitted pink cabinets. There is a separate dining room next to the living room, as well as a downstairs bathroom just off the entrance hall.
Upstairs also follows a natural colour palette, with a focus on wooden and metal furniture. There are three double bedrooms, two with en suites featuring large walk-in showers, a family bathroom, and a study which could be set up as a fourth double bedroom. The principal bedroom has the luxury of a walk-in wardrobe.
In line with Bargate Homes’ carbon-reduction strategy, the high internal and external specification of the homes exceeds Building Regulations. Creature comforts such as underfloor heating, stylish kitchens and bathrooms, and a choice of quality flooring options are included as standard. The Home Builders Federation recently reported that buyers of a newly built home save on average around £3,100 in annual energy bills – a figure that is set to rise when the Energy Price Guarantee changes.
Bargate Homes’ St Thomas’ Mead site is situated next to a freshwater stream, which weaves through the Old Bedhampton Conservation Area. The traditional – highly detailed – architecture is inspired by the rural location and the character style of quintessential homes in the area. Each home has generous gardens and light-filled living spaces, suited to the requirements of modern living. Surrounded by open green spaces, the natural setting of the grounds has been enhanced by new tree planting, landscaping, and environmental benefits to improve biodiversity.
Mark White, managing director of Bargate Homes, said: “The location of St Thomas’ Mead is very special, and it would be a struggle to find another opportunity quite like this within the new homes market. The site has a tranquil, rural feel, featuring a community orchid and gardens, children's allotment, and twin ponds, but also benefits from fast travel links to nearby Portsmouth, Brighton, and London. With a range of waterside and heritage attractions only a short distance from the site, it’s easy to see why this new development is so popular with buyers.
“The picture-postcard styling of the houses in Old Bedhampton has enabled St Thomas’ Mead to become one of the most beautiful new developments Bargate Homes has ever delivered. The varied street scene includes herringbone brickwork, part rendered elevations, and buttress walls. We feel very privileged to be developing this exemplary site and look forward to welcoming more new residents in the coming weeks and months.”
Lower Road in Old Bedhampton is around a mile from Bedhampton railway station. Local amenities including shops, sports facilities, a community hall, restaurants, bars, pre-school facilities, and ‘Good’ rated Ofsted schools, are also within walking distance. The development is only a few minutes’ drive from the A27 and A3, which leads to the coastline and the national motorway network. St Thomas’ Mead is open daily from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
