Record Enquiries And Sales At Landmark Somerset Development

Posted 21 September 2020 by Keith Osborne

There's been a surge in activity at an eco-friendly, design-led, high-specification development in sought-after Bruton...

Developer Acorn Property Group has seen a previously unprecedented level of enquiries and sales in recent weeks in Cubis Bruton, its landmark contemporary development in Somerset.

Post-lockdown, there’s been a 217% increase in website traffic and a 373% increase in enquiries, with four sales secured in the past month, bringing the total sold to 11. These include buyers from Devon, London and elsewhere in Somerset. All were attracted by the innovative and unique design, energy efficiency and the scheme’s harmonious integration into the surrounding landscape on the edge of one of Somerset’s most renowned towns.

The ground-breaking design is attracting a wide and diverse range of buyers, for whom the eco-chic and environmentally aware design and build are key points.

Potential buyers have also shown a keen interest in the quality of life and amenities that Bruton offers: good schools (including King’s School and Millfield), inspiring gardens (Piet Oudolf, at Hauser & Wirth), slow food culture and in particular cheese (Godminster, Westcombe Dairy), as well as restaurants and gastropubs, art galleries and classic architecture.

Cubis Bruton provides 56 contemporary, Scandinavian-inspired designed three- and four-bedroom houses on the site of a large Victorian house and disused horticultural centre. Each comes with ‘eco’ features including green roofs, timber cladding, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, ‘wet’ underfloor heating. Flexible living spaces, expanses of glass, and triple-glazed bi-parting glass doors to outside balconies and terraces offer distinctive homes that skillfully merge and outdoor space. The scheme has been designed around courtyards, central spaces and each home’s private garden.

It has all been devised by highly regarded land artist Mark Merer, known for combining architecture and landscape sculpture to create environmentally sensitive living spaces. He said: “To design Cubis Bruton, we worked closely with The Bruton Trust, which is responsible for development in the town. The Cuckoo Hill site provided the ideal opportunity to create a high-quality residential scheme which would also serve as a new entrance to the town.

“We visited and photographed the site and liaised with the local community about the type of housing they wanted. The result is homes truly integrated within the local landscape, created from sustainable materials, whose contemporary design answers the call from local people to provide homes with an exciting fresh look whose intelligent design helps to bring the environment alive.”

Cubis BrutonHome designs range up to 2,239 sq ft in size and come with electric car charging points provided as standard, smart meters which allow owners to digitally monitor their gas and electricity consumption, and LED lighting is used throughout to offer superior, more efficient and cleaner lighting.

The specification includes designer fully fitted Leicht kitchens with soft closing drawers and cupboards and integrated appliances, with bathrooms having white suites by Laufen, Vado brassware and large format wall and floor tiles. Other features include balconies and terraces with composite timber decking and glass balustrades and under-floor heating throughout.

Robin Squire, regional managing director of Acorn’s Bristol office said: “The striking and architecturally innovative homes at Cubis Bruton are a must-see. Only after a tour of the beautifully dressed show home do you really understand the flexible living space provided by these outstanding houses.”

Sue Macey, managing partner at Lodestone Property who are marketing homes commented: “Cubis Bruton is creating a great deal of interest with purchasers who include downsizers, up-sizers and families as well as couples. The town’s reputation and popularity, particularly with buyers considering schooling, continues to grow as the lifestyle that the town offers is exceptional. Cubis Bruton’s contemporary design meets an increasing demand for and interest in homes that are innovative, more environmentally considered and offer more family friendly open-plan living.”

The show home at Cubis Bruton can be viewed online, via a virtual tour, and in person. Prices for four-bedroom houses start from £570,000. The marketing suite is open daily from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
