Location, bespoke design and quality are key factors for new build buyers in London, says Meyer Homes’ Antony Crovella...

We talk to Meyer Homes’ Antony Crovella about new build success in central London amidst market uncertainties...

Please tell us a bit about your role as sales and marketing director at Meyer Homes

Meyer Homes was founded to deliver 13 sites acquired from Tesco plc. in 2015. The sites, based in London and the home counties, range from 35 – 950 units. I run the sales and marketing function for Meyer Homes and I am responsible for all elements of the sales process, marketing budgets, estate management and customer care.

We hear that your Bishops Gate development in Fulham has been received exceptionally well, can you give us some details about the scheme?

Bishops Gate is a unique development comprising 10 townhouses and 44 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with striking architecture combined with beautifully crafted interiors by renowned WISH London. Located in the heart of Fulham, Bishops Gate is moments from Bishops Park, the River Thames and the tube. The development is within an intimate and gated community behind a pair of meticulously restored historic gatehouses with highly desirable amenities including concierge, private parking, electric car charging points for all units and good transport links.

Why Fulham?

Fulham is an iconic location that holds value on its own and we wanted to create a product that will give residents the very best of capital city living with family friendly parks, artisan producers and world famous boutiques on Kings Road, along with excellent transport connections. It is a well-established residential location that is perennially popular.

Has there been a particular ‘type’ of buyer these houses have appealed to?

The buyers at Fulham have mostly been owner occupiers. There is a range of nationalities and a broad age range from young first-time buyers to retired downsizers.

Why do you think the houses have done so well when others at that upper price point are struggling in the midst of market uncertainties at the moment?

Meyer Homes put together a great team of experts working together on the development to create a bespoke product of outstanding design and quality. New houses are rare in Fulham, and our product in a gated estate with private parking is very uncommon. The location with great transport links into Central London has also been a key USP for the sales of the townhouses.

What are the more discerning buyers looking for in a new build property?

Buyers are looking for high quality in a new build property. They are looking for a property that has been well designed, gives them that exclusive feel with key factors like high specification, good security and concierge. Off-street parking is always sought after.

Can you tell us what design trends are proving popular right now in the luxury homes market?

There has been an increasing demand for understated modern luxury. Space planning is key to ensure the property flows, and suits the lifestyle of various buyer types. Meyer Homes works with selected interior designers to ensure the properties we deliver have the right look and feel for the market in which they are sold.

Meyer Homes prides itself on building sensitively and diversely within carefully selected locations, can you explain more about this?

We carefully design and build a development to offer a product that will enhance and enrich the local area, taking in the demand and drive specific to each location. Our end goal is to create a lasting contribution to communities through the unique quality, sensitivity and diversity of the homes and properties that we develop. For example, at our Fulham development we decided to create a modern, exclusive development that will offer residents amenities that will add value to their lives with concierge and parking on site, whereas at our St Alban’s development we created a more relaxed and open space around a communal garden with sculptures from David Harber for the residents to immerse themselves in their local areas, while also offering ultra-smart homes that will also add value to the modern lives.

What’s next for Meyer Homes?

We have a number of schemes which are going through the planning process, Lewisham and Woolwich will be the next two to be delivered. Our development of 255 private homes for rent in Hounslow is completing in December this year.

And finally, what is the most useful piece of advice you could offer anybody looking to buy a new home?

Do your research.
