Designing a one-bedroom apartment that feels cosy yet modern and stylish can be a difficult task if you have little interior design inspiration. Taylor Wimpey has teamed up with the team at Jigsaw Interior Architecture and Design to give people an insight into the design process which was used to decorate the one-bedroom show apartment at the housebuilder’s Lancaster Square development in South Ruislip, west London.

The apartments have been designed with modern living in mind, making this development perfect for first-time buyers, young professionals and commuters. Its proximity to central London and nearby parks and green open spaces create a harmoniously balanced version of city life for the residents of Lancaster Square.

Lancaster SquareRene Alexakou, interior designer at Jigsaw, was instrumental in designing the perfect one-bedroom apartment and explains how homebuyers can easily recreate a similar look in their own home. She said: “Every project we do, we have a client profile in mind when designing for the target audience, which is obtained through extensive research in the early stages of design. For the Lancaster Square show apartment, the storyline we went for represents a couple in their early thirties, buying their first property. They would both live and work in London, with a healthy, sociable lifestyle with friends.

“Our mantra is to treat each new project as an individual entity, providing a fresh perspective to each design. Here, we wanted to create a space that is stylish, timeless, and sustainable, to achieve the brief. We went for a trendy, yet timeless palette of greens, soft natural tones and statement charcoal black elements that modernise every room.”

With Taylor Wimpey committed to being as sustainable as possible on all its developments and as part of designing the show apartment, Jigsaw took steps to make sure the materials used were sourced ethically. Rene commented: “Our sofa supplier for the living room teamed up with Ecologi, who offset their carbon footprint. The side table is made from natural teak wood using natural, unprocessed materials that can be recycled.

Lancaster Square“In the bedroom, the bedside table is made of 100% solid natural acacia wood, and the supplier for the dressing table has a transparent global sourcing policy. All the candles in the apartment are naturally hand-crafted in Dorset, using recycled wine bottles, eco-friendly rapeseed wax, and essential oils. As for the yoga equipment, we sourced eco-friendly cork yoga mats and blocks. Last but not least, the window treatments all around the apartment are composed of 78% recycled polyester, 20% polyester and 2% linen. The recycled polyester comes from recycled mineral water bottles and food packing, so is much more ecological.”

Knowing where to start when designing the perfect interior can be hard so Rene suggested creating zones to maximise space. Commenting on this technique, she said: “For this apartment, we have created two areas within the living room: the dining area and the living area, which are ‘separated’ by a drinks bar – you can drink while dining, or on the sofa watching your favourite show!”

Discussing the apartment design project, Rene stated: “During my involvement, I assisted Taylor Wimpey during the initial installation, and provided additional design specifications to achieve the brief, while overall maintaining communication with the team. Jigsaw have proudly worked on multiple projects with Taylor Wimpey, and have developed a strong, long-lasting relationship with them. They are always welcoming and encouraging of our vision in interior design.”

Lancaster SquareGemma Bibby, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey West London, said: “We understand how important it is for people to be able to picture themselves in a new home before they commit to buying one and we’re really pleased with the turnout of our Lancaster Square show apartment. We hope visitors will be inspired by what they have seen and encourage anyone interested in making a move to come and visit us to see for themselves all that this development has to offer.”

Lancaster Square is conveniently located less than a five-minute walk away from the South Ruislip Underground station. Oxford Circus is just 35 minutes away on the Central line and the nearby A40 provides commuters direct links to central London, High Wycombe and Oxford via the M40. Taylor Wimpey West London has a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments available at the development, with prices currently from £359,950 to £625,000.
