Show Home Room By Room: Watermark In Maidenhead

Posted 12 March 2021 by Keith Osborne

Leonnie Effenberger of BoConcept takes us around the show home designed for Countryside at its Watermark development...

WhatHouse? takes a tour of the new two-bedroom show apartment at Countryside's Watermark development in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Watermark offers one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments on the banks of Maidenhead Waterways, along with on-site restaurant, café and community space. All apartments come with private outside space, either through a terrace or balcony, offering the perfect environment to enjoy views of the river on a summer evening.

Located in the heart of the market town, Watermark is in walking distance of a fantastic selection of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as Maidenhead train station for trips into London on the new Elizabeth Line or further afield.

Prices for a one-bedroom apartment at Watermark start from £305,000. Selected plots include a free BoConcept furniture pack worth £8,550, enabling customers to easily recreate the look of the show apartment in their own home.

We speak to Leonnie Effenberger, head of contract design at BoConcept, the interior designers for this project, to provide a quick tour of the home:

“We based the design of the home around working-from-home phenomenon that has been imposed upon large sections of society over the past year, using this to create a space that promotes a healthy and happy work-life balance in the home. This has been achieved by creating designated zones for the various activities in life, making it easier to focus on the task at hand. While comfort is key, the approach has also been to ensure that the furniture is practical and functional to meet the needs of potential owners and to make the most out of the available space.”

Living area

WatermarkThis cosy seating area shows off the essence of urban danish design. In terms of look and feel, we used a base palette of neutral earthy tones and fresh whites to give a calming feel to the space, enhanced with uplifting accents of earthy greens and vibrant mustard yellows to give a sense of positivity and optimism. This demonstrates how owners can inject their personality on top of a soft base palette, which is really important in order to build a personal connection with your home. This colour scheme continues throughout the apartment to enable each room to flow naturally into the next.

Dining and study area (living room continued)

WatermarkThis open-plan room really is the heart of the home that needs to cater for various functions. We designed this space with these daily activities in mind, keeping it fresh and spacious. Considering the ‘work-from-home’ movement that has recently become inflicted on us, we wanted to create a space that promotes a healthy and happy work-life balance in the home, creating designated zones for the various activities in life, making it easier to focus on the task at hand. Comfort is key, but we have also made sure the furniture is practical and functional to meet the needs of the potential owners and to make the most out of the available space. The light, bright tones make the home feel spacious and airy to avoid feeling claustrophobic when staying at home.

Master bedroom

WatermarkThe playful backdrop created by the wallpaper in this master bedroom draws the eye in and highlights the bold mustard velvet bed as the key focal point in the room… after all, this is the most important element in this space and should be the centre of attention! By removing all other functions from the room we have created a bedroom that its owners will look forward to coming into at the end of the day. The khaki greens and soft greys acting as perfect balance against the vibrant tones and playful shapes.

Bedroom two

WatermarkThis bedroom was designed with a ‘less is more’ approach using simple blocks of bold colours and cleans lines to complement each other perfectly and create a harmonious yet impactful aesthetic. The neutral taupe’s and earthy greens provide a calming connection to nature that can often be missed in ‘city living’ but can have a big impact on well-being. The sharp black accents of the furniture add a sense of depth and more dynamic look to the palette again combined with fresh white walls and softer mute tones and vibrant yellows.
