Helen ChristieFollowing the launch this summer of the three-bedroom maisonettes at South Oxhey Central, Countryside’s £218m regeneration scheme in Hertfordshire, WhatHouse? takes a tour of the brand new three-bedroom show home, designed by Abode.
We speak to Jon Pilling at Abode for a guide to the apartment.
Jon says: “We wanted to design a show home that matched the character of South Oxhey Central and the local area, and so created a scheme that was really modern and colourful, with bespoke design ideas that customers could take away, but with an interior that still felt really cool and aspirational. We have achieved this through a neutral base of taupes and ivory and a touch of black for depth, with added small touches of a calm tranquil green to give it depth.
“I would describe the style of the home as comfy contemporary. The feel of the house might be the most important factor of the design for us, and we wanted the interior to feel calm and homely. With everything that’s going on in the world, having this retreat, somewhere where you feel relaxed but also inspired, must be really high on everyone’s list of must haves.”
Kitchen/dining room

“We wanted to illustrate what a great space the kitchen/dining room is. When you walk into the room, you are immediately greeted by a big pop of a deep dark green colour on the wall panelling behind the banquette seating. We purposely layered the colour tones in the wall, wall panelling, banquette seating, table and chairs to give a dramatic look. By having banquette seating in the dining area we can easily seat five or six, while still leaving ample space for entertaining and cooking.”
Living area

“We wanted this space to be calm. At the end of the day, when you’re done with work, life and kids, this is your retreat to switch-off in. Simply pull the wall-to-wall curtains closed and relax. We have a huge corner sofa facing a bespoke media unit with a 55” TV and plenty of space for displaying artwork, photos and accessories.”
Master bedroom

“The feeling we wanted to evoke in this space was one of holiday hotel luxury. The design of the headboard purposely brings the bed out, so we can create back-lit shelving and display areas either side. Textured wallpaper and luxury fabrics give the space a really opulent feel.”
Second bedroom

“Our favourite part of the apartment is the second bedroom, on the top floor. This is the guest room that you want to stay in, but also provides an amazing work-from-home space too. The bed area has modern wall panelling with a mix of WoodUp and Orac in minty greens and dark fumed oaks. Then we have added a Crittall-style room divider that perfectly separates the guest sleeping area from a well-proportioned working-from-home area that offers amazing views over South Oxhey from your second-floor front-facing window. It illustrates perfectly how purchasers could make the best use of their new home.”
A new collection of three-bedroom maisonettes launched for sale earlier this year for the first time at South Oxhey Central. The stylish three-bedroom, three-bathroom homes benefit from a private terrace which extends the modern open-plan living area, an excellent specification including integrated kitchen appliances, a fitted wardroom to the master bedroom, flooring included as standard and allocated parking.
These new, high-specification homes are ideal for first-time buyers and families who want to get more for their money while remaining in close proximity to central London, with prices starting from £515,000.
