Show Home Room By Room: London Square Bermondsey

Posted 17 February 2021 by Keith Osborne

WhatHouse? views the show apartment at landmark London Square Bermondsey, on the south-eastern edge of central London...

A taste of the exceptional levels of design on offer at London Square Bermondsey is showcased in a new apartment by award-winning Dapa Interiors.

This is now available to view or visit in The Crosse, and embraces the eclectic vibe of the area, showcasing local artistic talent and Bermondsey-based producers, plus sustainable and bespoke interior elements.

At the same time, buyers are being offered a generous incentive to choose one of the final four stunning apartments in The Crosse Building with full Stamp Duty paid and a 5% deposit boost. Purchasers will need to complete by Friday 26 March to qualify – with the opportunity to be in their new home at the stylish new neighbourhood in the heart of SE1 by Easter.

The Crosse has four highly individual apartments available, including two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. All have bespoke design and luxury specifications, with generous-sized living areas, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glazing for maximum daylight and views. London Square Bermondsey stands in 4.7 acres, a collection of former industrial and contemporary buildings, with landscaped communal gardens, a gym and concierge, plus art galleries and studios, just a 12-minute walk from London Bridge station.

The new apartment designed by Dapa Interiors offers exquisite mid-century and modern design, with accents of brass detailing, black timber and metals. The colour palette combines vibrant bright blues, deep reds and bold geometric patterns.

London Square BermondseyThe spacious open-plan living area features a funky blue velvet cut-out chair, with a cool marble and brass drink table and a block-cut rug by sustainable supplier West Elm. A bespoke media unit made from sustainable wood and manufactured in the UK is a statement piece, along with recycled plastic drinks coasters, and hand-painted framed fabric by Linwood, a family firm based in Hampshire. The elegant dining area looks out over the London skyline, along with a beautifully styled balcony, perfect for outdoor entertaining.

London Square BermondseyThe sleek Siematic kitchen with Siemans appliances with island and seating area for breakfast or cocktails, is stocked with local produce including Jenson Gin and Bermondsey Street Bees honey.

London Square BermondseyThe master bedroom features a geometric bright blue velvet headboard over a king-size bed to create focus, with the second bedroom channelling deep red hues for a warm haven. Bathrooms are styled in a dark palette, in contrast to gleaming chrome, mirrors and recessed lighting around dual sinks, Renaissance baths and showers.

Hayley Grace-Card, interior designer for Dapa, said: “The overall look and feel reflect the energy and artistic dynamic of the Bermondsey area. The scheme has been enhanced by showing a variety of bespoke artworks, influenced by the Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey Street and the talent being nurtured by local arts charity Tannery Arts.”

London Square BermondseyThe study, designed for working from home, has a work of art in paint, ink and chalk by artist Caterina Lewis, hanging above the desk in the study, inspiring the choice of a stand-out geometric wallpaper, plus a hand-made day bed for power breaks from Zoom. Caterina Lewis works with local arts charity Tannery Arts and her work was featured in a recent art exhibition at London Square Bermondsey.

When the first phases of London Square Bermondsey are completed, Tannery Arts will move into a purpose-built arts hub in 2022, with studios and gallery spaces, as well as studios, a base for artist-run projects for families, school pupils, teachers and community groups, plus studio visits, evening classes and multi-artform events.

Jo McDonagh, sales and marketing director, London Square, said: “Dapa has captured the essence of Bermondsey for our new show apartment. At London Square Bermondsey, we are appealing to buyers who want to make the most of all the capital has to offer by choosing a great place to live, with interesting independent shops, bars and restaurants, cultural attractions and riverside trails and parks, all within walking distance.

London Square Bermondsey“We are attracting buyers who want to be able to work from home and stay local, with the option to walk, cycle or run to the office when people return to their desks, when the vaccine roll-out makes this possible. We have four remaining apartments in The Crosse Building and we believe that a financial incentive will make a big difference to purchasers.”

Bermondsey is ranked among the best places to live in the capital by the Sunday Times. The independent bars, cafes, restaurants and shops of Bermondsey Street are close to London Square Bermondsey, plus Borough Market and transport links at London Bridge are within a 12-minute walk.

Independent research revealed that 30% of the district’s schools are judged outstanding by Ofsted. The area has the equivalent of 31 football pitches of green space (220,000m²), including Bermondsey Spa Gardens, Tanner Street Park and Potters Fields, within a 15-minute walk.

Excellent transport links puts it in the top 4% of London neighbourhoods, ahead of Shoreditch at 9% and Islington at 7%. Bermondsey has 90 bus stops, three Tube stations at Bermondsey, Borough and London Bridge, with its national rail links. In addition, there are numerous cycle routes, with the city just 12 minutes by bike.

Bermondsey is also in the top 3% for amenities with restaurants, bars, pubs, theatres and museums such as The Fashion and Textile Museum in former industrial warehouses and historic buildings, galleries such as White Cube Bermondsey and supermarkets, with 81 restaurants within walking distance, including Michelin starred restaurant Story. Maltby Street, Borough and Vinegar Yard food markets are all within a short walk, along with the Bermondsey Beer Mile, which covers 17 craft breweries.

Two-bedroom apartments in The Crosse start from £915,000, with a three-bedroom apartment at £1.1million.
