Show Home Room by Room: Hayfield Green, Stanton Harcourt
WhatHouse? takes a tour of the two-bedroom bungalow show home at Hayfield Green by Best Small Housebuilder award-winner Hayfield in Stanton Harcourt, Oxfordshire.
Hayfield Green is breathing new life into an expansive 21-acre former RAF WWII Airfield located in the historic and picturesque village of Stanton Harcourt in West Oxfordshire. The scheme features 66 two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes, surrounded by large areas of open space, joined by a series of public walkways and monuments recognising the historical significance of the site.
The ‘Cotheridge’ is the palatial new two-bedroom bungalow show home, designed by highly acclaimed Lifestyle Interiors. Externally, a fine row of both red brick and rendered ‘Cotheridges’ fronts onto Hayfield Green’s painstakingly renovated open space, featuring air raid and blast shelters and the newly restored Water Tower and Guard House, which will be handed over to the Parish Council for use as a community building.
The pretty double-fronted exterior features an oak panelled balustraded veranda entrance with space to sit out, while staying under cover. Other notable features include parking for up to six cars, extra high ceilings and a spacious hallway to create a sense of grandeur, underfloor heating with an air source heat pump to reduce running costs, electric garage doors and a large private garden that wraps itself around the property. With numerous built-in ceiling-height cupboards, the ‘Cotheridge’ bungalow provides more storage than a four-bedroom home.
Living room: On entering the ‘Cotheridge’, your eyes are immediately drawn from the hallway to the internal double doors of the living room. At the opposite end are the bi-fold doors that lead out onto the garden, creating a tunnel of light. The sophisticated décor features wall panelling with smoked mirrors and art deco inspired furniture. A large open storage unit cleverly divides the space into a relaxed sofa area and reading zone. Alternatively, this space could be used for formal dining.
Garden: The generously-sized garden has been designed with sunny days in mind. The large patio enables the occupiers to bring the outdoors in and use it as an extension to the living space. A personnel door takes you from the garden into the double garage.
Kitchen/diner: The large kitchen is filled with high-specification features, such as Quartz worktops, luxury Bosch integrated appliances, a hot tap, under-plinth lighting, Minoli ceramic tiles and Hayfield’s signature fitted cupboards, which run right up to the ceiling to provide extra storage. The generous proportions of this room lend itself to casual dining, with four people easily accommodated around the kitchen table.
The utility room is accessed off the kitchen, where there is space for a separate washer and dryer, together with fitted cupboards and worktops that match the kitchen. A part-glazed door leads out into the garden.
Dining room: The formal separate dining room features more of Hayfield’s signature wall panelling to create a sophisticated space for entertaining. Alternatively, this light and bright room can be used as a third bedroom.
Master bedroom: The ‘Cotheridge’ benefits from two large double bedrooms, both with en suites. The master bedroom features a triple door, fitted Hammonds wardrobe that runs up to ceiling height to provide additional storage space. In addition, the light bedroom – which looks onto the private garden – has ample space for a chest of drawers, dressing table and bedside tables either side of the plush kingsize bed.
Master en suite: The ROCA Laufen designer suite features vanity drawers, a mirrored draks unit and a top of the range Acqualisa shower, which can be operated from a smartphone app. Beautiful Minoli ceramic tiles complete the hotel-style look. A large window provides natural ventilation and light.
Second bedroom: The second bedroom looks out onto Hayfield Green’s open space and restored airfield monuments. It features more strikingly sophisticated wall panelling and a double door fitted Hammonds wardrobe that runs up to the ceiling.
Second bedroom en suite: The second bedroom en suite features a glamorous bath with an overhead and hand-held shower. Signature Hayfield features include the Laufen vanity storage basin, Minoli ceramic tiled bath side and large window to provide natural ventilation and light, which is unusual to find in second bedroom en suites.
Prices at Hayfield Green range from £330,000 to £580,000 with a wide range of newly released two-, three- and four-bedroom homes available. Hayfield’s new discount schemes for key workers and Armed Forces personnel have already proved to be very popular at this unique former airfield. The government’s Forces Help to Buy initiative is also available to help Armed Forces Personnel raise deposit funds, while the regular Help to Buy initiative is offered to all eligible buyers.
