School Pupil Inspires Show Home Design

Posted 6 May 2022 by Helen Christie

A young competition winner has recently had their bedroom design brought to life at a new show home in Newbury…

12-year-old Abi, who is now a student in Witney, was announced as the winner of an interior design competition hosted by developer David Wilson Homes.

As part of the creative competition hosted in 2020, pupils who attended St Gabriel’s School in Newbury showcased their talents by creating bedroom designs suitable for a modern show home.

Abi’s bedroom design, which features a hot air balloon theme, was selected as the winning entry by the developer, enabling Abi to secure an art set and a £50 book voucher prize.

The winning design was also implemented into one of the bedrooms in the Holden show home at David Wilson Homes’ Donnington Heights development.

Abi’s mother, Lucy Venables, says: “Abi’s initial inspiration for her design was clouds and how they link to dreams. She thought it would be nice for the child who chooses this bedroom to imagine themselves floating in the clouds in a hot air balloon while they’re going to sleep. Abi was thrilled to have won and has loved seeing her ideas come to life in this fantastic show home.”

Pete Dove, head of the Junior School at St Gabriel’s, says: “We were delighted to provide pupils with the opportunity to put their creative design skills to work in this competition, and Abi showed an excellent understanding of the brief in her own clever design for the show home.”

Rob Allen, sales director at David Wilson Homes Southern, says: “It has been an absolute pleasure to announce Abi as the winner of our interior design competition. Her striking design provided the perfect inspiration to create a beautiful and unique children’s bedroom for visitors and house hunters to enjoy.

“We’d encourage those who are looking for a new home in the area to head down and visit the two show homes and view homes we have available, and of course pop in to see Abi’s excellent design in person.”

Donnington Heights is set to become one of West Berkshire’s property hotspots with its proximity to Donnington Castle and the Vodafone headquarters close by, making for an easy commute for employees.

Upon completion, the development will consist of 222 new homes and it currently features a selection of four- and five-bedroom homes, designed with space and family living in mind.
