Creating the Perfect Office Space in Your New Home

Posted 16 August 2018 by Helen Christie

Having a designated study in your home can provide an excellent space to separate your work from the hustle and bustle of family life...

A designated study in your home can provide you with the perfect space to concentrate and focus on your work.

David Wilson Homes expertly crafts a number of properties which feature their own studies and has ensured all of its homes have rooms that offer the versatility to be easily transitioned into a work space.

Rob Allen, sales director at David Wilson Homes Southern, says: “Working from home and having a study is a priority for many of our customers and we’ve made sure our properties have been designed to support these needs. By putting together a list of helpful hints and tips we want to encourage homeowners to create a productive workspace.”

Let the natural light flow

All of David Wilson Homes’ properties have been designed to encourage natural light into each room by featuring large windows and a layout that allows one room to flow easily into the next. Natural light is important in a room where you will spend your working days and has many benefits, including improving your mood and vision, as well as helping to conserve energy.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Ensuring you have a relaxing area to work in is key in your study because you’ll be sitting there for long periods at a time. Invest in a comfy armchair and make sure your computer and keyboard are in the right positions on the desk to maximize productivity.

Choose a colour that will inspire you

When it comes to decorating your study, make sure you choose a colour that will not only inspire you, but will also aid productivity and keep you calm. Pale blues and greys are ideal for creating a serene and tranquil look, while yellows and oranges are said to boost positivity and spark creativity. Choose something that works for you.

Keep your supplies to yourself

The last thing you want to be doing when working from home is nipping into the living room or kitchen every five minutes to look for something. Make sure you have a designated space for your stationary needs so you can ensure you’re ‘in the zone’ and won’t need to be distracted.

A peaceful area to work in would be an astute accessory for working professionals and families with children needing to complete their school work from home.

Opting to use a spare room as a study would also provide an opportunity to develop an office space at the property, with a desk and a computer for the whole family to utilise, as opposed to storing the necessary equipment in one of the bedrooms.

We’ve put together a selection of some of our favourite work spaces in show homes around the country…
