But what are the steps to making your dream a reality and getting the keys to a brand new place to live? We tell you here.
Find the home you want
With a number of high-quality developments on the market, especially in major cities, you can go to the search page on Whathouse.com, take a look at the options and compare them against each other. What are your priority features? [link to graphic/checklist] You can find out everything about location, the size and layout of the available properties and the variety of amenities and services included in your rent.
Provide some basic personal information
The management company at the development will be able to advise on filling in all the forms but you’ll need to have some essential information ready for them. Things like contact details, how long are planning to stay, will you need parking, do you have a pet.
Pay a holding deposit
With the forms filled in, you can secure the property by paying a holding deposit while the next steps are carried out. This is usually one week’s rent [check other developers] and will be held on account until the first month’s rent is due, when it will be deducted from the first payment. At this point, the property you want will be taken off the market, so there’ll be no competition from anyone else who wants the same unit.
References
On payment of the deposit, the management company will carry out some reference checks. [Details needed]
Pay a full deposit
Once all the references have been received and accepted, you can sign a tenancy agreement and pay the formal deposit [5 weeks’ rent? Check other developers] and your first month’s rent (less your holding deposit). This will be registered in a Tenancy Deposit Scheme.
Move in
Arrange the date and time for moving in. You’ll receive an inventory of what your landlord is providing. The keys will be handed to you, and you’ll have the perfect place to call home.
