The Mill by Lovell – Show Home Room by Room

Lovell recently opened its first three show homes at landmark development The Mill in Canton, west Cardiff.  This new urban village is taking shape on the site of a former paper mill, in a riverside location only ten minutes from the city centre.

Michelle Hooper, senior designer with interiors specialist Jane Clayton, oversaw the overall design for the three show properties. “Our brief was to match the fresh, modern feel of the development,” says Michelle. Project manager Jessica Payne was also involved, designing the Oak show property.

Michelle says: “The Oak three-bedroom show home has been designed to appeal to buyers looking for a stylish home for their growing family.  We’ve emphasised that this is a house with serious potential as a ‘forever’ home, using sumptuous furnishings and creating room layouts which demonstrate the accommodation’s flexibility. The colour scheme is based on an ultra-sophisticated palette of navy blues and blacks, plus plums and greys accented with shimmering metallics.

Kitchen: “By marrying elements of classic and contemporary design, we’ve made the open-plan kitchen and dining area a decidedly glamorous space with a modern edge.  Sleek white gloss kitchen cabinets, an arched feature mirror and pared-back chandelier over the dining table maximise the feeling of light and brightness.  The dining area  is a stand-out feature of this versatile room which is spacious and functional but also delivers an impressive setting for entertaining and socialising.

Lounge: “This is a truly sophisticated ‘grown-up’ space, with a palette of greys and blues complemented by dark wood furniture. It’s cosy too, thanks to a massive corner sofa heaped with velvet cushions - a great place to curl up with a glass of wine and a box set.

Study: “One of the main attractions of the Oak is the flexibility of the living space. That’s perfectly illustrated by the contemporary study we’ve created in this first-floor room (which could work equally well as a bedroom).

Children’s bedroom: “No one can resist this Star Wars-themed room which we’ve designed as a bedroom for twin boys. We’ve gone to town here with a light saber, storm trooper and a speaker which plays the Star Wars theme when you step inside!

Second bedroom: “The second bedroom has been designed as a guest room and offers an elegant and relaxing haven in tranquil grey and blue shades.

Master bedroom: “Occupying the entire span of the third floor, this vast double-aspect room delivers a huge impact. We’ve gone all-out for opulence, creating a modern movie star luxury feel with luscious fabrics and glamorous furnishings including an oversized statement headboard, chaise longue and dressing table with an elegant triple mirror.  

Homes currently available at The Mill include a range of newly released apartments at Hawthorn House, ideal for first-time purchasers, with two-beds starting from £172,000 – now nearly 50% sold.
