Show home room by room - Lavender Fields, Isfield
A new development in a sought-after part of East Sussex takes its inspiration from country living with the designers trying to reflect both the rural chic lifestyle and the architecture of the surrounding area.
Millwood Designer Homes has recently launched its show home at the Lavender Fields development in village of Isfield, halfway between the historic county town of Lewes and Uckfield. It features luxury apartments within a grand manor house, oast houses and a selection of smaller terraced cottages.
Millwood commissioned The L&C Company to design the interior of the show home using reclaimed materials to help the development achieve its aim of having an appearance of a quintessential English village, just like its setting.
Senior interior designer, Allison Pidgeon explains her thoughts on the show home and how her design reflects the needs of the buyer: “The show home as a whole is designed to be elegant whilst also nodding its cap towards the beautiful rural location of Isfield and the unique design of the development itself.
“This is a quaint little village consisting of a dairy, oast houses and blacksmiths, and the show house reflects this without being twee. It has four bedrooms, two of which have been subtly themed for a boy and a girl, and we feel they portray the correct style of family living for this area.”
“We used soft wools for the sofas to provide a sense of cosiness, and added glamorous touches by including silky satins and shimmering velvets in the scatter cushions and curtains. Smooth and light reflective marble coffee tables on elegant bases provide a sense of formality and contrast beautifully with the rustic brickwork of the fireplace. The intention was to create a sumptuous room that is both stylish and cosy by using a range of different textures and a subtle muted palette of colours.” |  |
“The dining room is a formal area and we took inspiration from the indigo, silver and bronze silk fabric we used for the artwork which we framed in a beautiful bronze frame above the console table. We provided deep buttoned high back dining chairs in luxurious velvet, all sat around a bespoke warm dark wood table.” |  |
“Our inspiration for the kitchen came from the Shaker style kitchen which we felt was appropriate for this house and we wanted the kitchen to be the heart of the home, so we included a farmhouse style table for informal eating in front of the floor to ceiling windows. We included practical faux leather chairs, and some earthenware pots with lavender florals, paying homage to the development, Lavender Fields.” |  |
“We wanted this area to be sophisticated and glamorous and decided that using mirrors on each side of the bed would achieve this, which also increased the sense of space. We used dark elegant woods and clear glass bedside lamps, which enhanced the theme of sophistication. We chose a subtle muted palette of blush and ivory for this room, which adds glamour and elegance with a softness that will appeal to a wide variety of buyers.” |  |
Isfield is less than five miles from the South Downs National Park and about 10 miles from the Ashdown Forest, the setting for AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh books. It is also part of the Bluebell Railway heritage railway line which runs for 11 miles along the border of East and West Sussex and has the second largest collection of steam trains, over 30, in the country, after the National Railway Museum.
