Sales of luxury homes in Walton-on-Thames suggest a confident property market

Posted 13 December 2016 by Keith Osborne

Two brand new mansion-style homes of around £5m each, from award-winning developer Octagon, have been sold in quick succession in Surrey...

A pair of luxury detached homes priced at about £5m each, at a boutique development in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, have both been sold, indicating a return to confidence at the high end of the property market.

Developer Octagon recently won at the WhatHouse? Awards 2016 (a Silver for Best Luxury House, for ‘High Ridge’ in Oxshott), continuing their annual success at this most prestigious of housebuilding events.

The two homes at Burwood Park, ‘Fairmont House’ and ‘Grenville House’, have been sold within weeks of each other. Changes to stamp duty from 2014, as well as political and economic events over the past two years, have proved a challenge to the luxury property market, but the sale of these two huge homes is a sign that buyers are coming back and willing to spend the money on the finest standard of homes.

These two properties each come on a 0.67-acre plot and provide over 8,600 sq ft of accommodation, including self-contained staff quarters. Each has five bedrooms with fitted wardrobes (four of which have en suite facilities), dressing rooms to master and guest bedrooms, a marble-tiled entrance hall, four reception rooms and a ‘super room’, combining kitchen, living and family space, as well as a separate utility room. There’s also a playroom and, above a triple garage, a one-bedroom staff apartment with its own kitchen/living room and bathroom.

Warren Fraser, director of Curchods, says: “Burwood Park is one of those semi-rural evergreen locations, discovered by growing families who put down roots, and are loathe to leave, even when the children have flown the nest. With over 360 acres of natural beauty, wildlife and two natural lakes, the setting is quite superb – and a community’s dream. Neighbours are friendly, and most importantly, permanent, and these are their principal homes.”
