A Winning Recipe At Canalside Development

For AJ, when he imagined his first home, he didn’t have a particular location in mind.

He had rented in a number of different areas across London, like Marylebone and Clapham, and still hadn’t found the perfect place. As a chef working in central London, he often works late nights, and so was looking for a home with easy links into zone 1, as well as a feeling of luxury to enjoy those rare days off. 

After many years of following news of the Berkeley Group’s transformative developments across London, Amjad Shehata, who goes by AJ, and his father were delighted to receive news that new homes were launching at Chelsea Creek, a canalside development in Fulham, just moments from the King’s Road. 

AJ comments: “My father has been interested in what Berkeley deliver for many years. We weren’t actively looking for an apartment for me at that time, but we saw the images of Chelsea Creek in an email and had to check it out. The location, the water, the amenities – they looked incredible and quite a rare find in London. When Chelsea Creek came up I was super excited about the prospect of living in a new area, with good transport and being so close to Chelsea and the King’s Road.  My property search was more motivated by the home itself and the local amenities, rather than a particular area – so long as that area was well connected for easy journeys into central London.”

Chelsea Creek is a new residential development comprising apartments around a newly reinstated series of canals, just a few minutes’ walk to Imperial Wharf station. The canalside architecture of Amsterdam and Copenhagen inspired the design of the development, and many homes enjoy dual aspect water views, as well as access to the carefully considered landscaped gardens and tree-lined avenues. As part of the development, developer St George, part of the Berkeley Group, also refurbished an existing lock.

AJ purchased a one-bedroom apartment in Westwood House at Chelsea Creek. As a resident, AJ has access to the wealth of facilities at Chelsea Creek, including a wellness centre, swimming pool, spa with sauna and steam-room. Opening this year, AJ will also have access to a residents’ lounge and business room, two private cinemas and a 31st floor sky lounge and roof terrace.

AJ says: “Chelsea Creek is the best! I love living here. I use all the amenities a lot – particularly the gym. Ish, the gym manager, is also my personal trainer. There’s a real ‘everyone knows your name’ feel to living to here.”

With construction at Chelsea Creek almost coming to a close, 2024 will see the opening of the Halcyon Club’s 31st floor sky lounge and terrace, in the King’s Tower, with enviable views towards the city. 

Chelsea Creek is a short walk from the King’s Road, where AJ spends a lot of his precious free time: “In Chelsea, I love the Cadogan Arms pub on the King’s Road – it’s a real institution. I’m a big sushi guy so I love Sticks’n’Sushi Chelsea. The Chelsea Fishmonger is one of my regular haunts – it’s a century-old fish shop near the King’s Road. There are great local butchers in the area too. As a chef, having good produce locally is really important to me, we have access to some of the best meat, fish and vegetables in London in this part of town.”

It’s not just the King’s Road on the doorstep, the riverside Chelsea Harbour also has a lot of offer: “The Waterside (pub) just a few minutes away in Imperial Wharf is another good local hangout. The riverside views are incredible no matter the weather. I love to get the Uber boat, too, from Chelsea Harbour Pier – being so close to the river is such an authentic ‘London’ experience, plus it’s a great plan B to get to work when the trains are on strike….!”

AJ bought the property with his father, who sees the purchase as a good investment for long-term. AJ adds: “He saw the purchase as his opportunity to help give his children a step up on the property ladder. He trusts that Berkeley are a great developer with an eye for quality and knows we’re in good hands. “

Two years after his purchase, AJ has developed a close relationship with the team at Chelsea Creek: “The customer service team at St. George was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process, and even after two years, they are still my go-to team for any questions I may have."

The homes at Chelsea Creek start from £810,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. Over 85% of the homes are now sold.
