Swapping A Studio Apartment For Spacious House

Posted 23 July 2021 by Keith Osborne

Thanks to saving hard and using Help to Buy, Jake has purchased a house and created a dedicated home office...

As home working looks set to continue for many, with lots making the move from office to home permanent, buyers across the country have been adding a spare room or home office to their list of house buying requirements.

One such buyer was 23-year-old Jake King, a software developer who purchased his first home at The Lodge, a development by Miller Homes, on the City Fields regeneration scheme on the outskirts of Wakefield.

Jake, whose previous home was a studio apartment, was able to escape the Leeds city centre renting cycle by choosing a three-bedroom ‘Stretton’ style of home and utilising the government-led scheme, Help to Buy, which helped to ensure he was in a strong financial position for the future.

Jake had accumulated a good deposit through regular saving and found that his monthly payment only increased by £30 a month when comparing rent for a studio flat with his three-bedroom house mortgage. Furthermore, the extra space meant that he could dedicate one of his spare rooms to facilitate his need to work from home.

“I had been looking for somewhere to buy my first home, with a garden, that also gave great commuting into Leeds when I did need to be at the office, but that wasn’t a city centre development,” said Jake. “I liked the overall feel of City Fields, but particularly the house styles that Miller offered. The fantastic help that Jenny, the development sales manager, gave me in answering my many questions and guiding me through the process, which was all new to me, not only at the beginning but throughout entire time, meant that I was confident that I had made the right choice for me.”

Jake continued: “I was really happy to be the second resident at The Lodge, and absolutely love living here. Knowing that Michael, the site manager, and Jenny are on hand for any queries – such as where the fuse box is located! – is reassuring as a first-time buyer and I can’t recommend Miller Homes enough.

“Buying a home for the first time and on your own can be a daunting process and when you do this in the middle of a pandemic it can be an anxious time. However, the reassurance that the Miller team offered gave me great confidence and now I’m able to enjoy the space whilst I continue to work from home.”

All homes at The Lodge at City Fields are now reserved, however there are still properties available at The Gables at City Fields. Find out more from Miller Homes.
