Stamp Duty Holiday Helps Yorkshire Family
You could be forgiven for thinking that moving your family to a brand new home in the middle of a global pandemic wasn’t a great idea, but one Yorkshire family have shown how straightforward it was and how they benefitted.
Benjamin and Leanne Bennett and their twin three-year-old boys really wanted to be close to family, particularly grandparents, as the sons grow up and relocated from nearby Northallerton back to Boroughbridge where they were originally from, and found their dream home at Milby Grange, a development by Miller Homes, set on the fringes of the traditional Yorkshire town.
Having viewed the homes at Milby Grange in July 2020 initially, they reserved a four-bedroom ‘Tressell’ style of home at the beginning of August and were able to benefit from the government’s Stamp Duty holiday.
As the family reserved early in the build process, they were able to make additional changes such as upgrades to their kitchens and bathrooms, additional tiling and upgraded carpets throughout the home.
“We really have benefitted from buying new, and Miller Homes have been absolutely fantastic every step of the way, right from the very first time we visited in the middle of a pandemic, and even now when we have settled into our lovely new home,” said Benjamin, a treasury analyst. “Jo, the development sales manager, was helpful from day one. This was the first brand new home we have ever bought, and we didn’t really know what to expect, and how that could have been made more difficult with the restrictions. However, we just had genuine, helpful service that allowed us to enjoy buying our new home even with the added challenges of the pandemic.”
The Bennetts sold their old home in Northallerton independently and moved into their new home just before Christmas 2020. Their ideally located corner plot has views over the neighbouring fields and is just a few minutes’ walk from town.
“The Stamp Duty holiday meant that we were able to use some savings we had to facilitate the added extras in our new home, making it exactly as wished for,” said Benjamin. “Our new home appealed because of the extra en suite to the second bedroom, particularly helpful with twin boys, and the fourth bedroom has been the perfect solution for me adapting to working from home temporarily and provided a quiet corner for my wife to have a dressing table and storage area.
“We can say, without hesitation, that Jo and the Miller Homes team have been fantastic. Our home is wonderful, we thoroughly enjoyed buying it and now, my parents-in-law have begun the process to buy here with us; heartened by the positive experience and the quality of the home we have.”
