First-Time Buyers Move To New Development In Northampton

A pair of first-time buyers have become one of the first to move in at a new homes development in Northampton, which is the first to be built by the housebuilder involved.

Tamsin Dolman and Josh Sampson, both 27, were the first people to reserve a new home at WhatHouse? Award-winning developer Miller Homes’ first ever development in Northampton, and the first site for the developer’s newly-created South Midlands region.

The couple have purchased a three-bedroom Carson home at the development, known as Norwood Quarter, which was also Plot 1 on the site. The new homeowners moved into their property in August and have begun making their house a home ever since.

Tamsin, an operations manager for a charity, says: “We hope to make this our first and forever home all wrapped into one. We have worked hard to achieve it, saving up for a large deposit as well having the additional support from our families. We are extremely grateful and feel very fortunate that we were able to purchase a generously sized three-bedroom home as our first home, so we have future-proofed ourselves in that respect. Josh and I have lived in and around Northampton all our lives so we knew the area really well. We wished to stay relatively close to the town, but also wanted a property in a location that was somewhat more rural as this is what we have been used to growing up. We found that Norwood Quarter has given us that balance as it is on the edge of the town but offers great road links for us to be able to commute to our places of work.”

The Northampton pair reserved their Carson home less than six months before moving in, ahead of schedule, in August 2023, showing the benefit of being chain-free when moving into a new build home.

Tamsin continues: “We wanted a new build home, because we liked the idea of having a blank canvas to make into our own, especially for our first home. Miller Homes hadn’t built in Northampton before so we researched the company and the reviews we found from sites in other regions were really good, which we absolutely agree with now. Our home has been built to such a high standard, and the Miller properties seem to offer so much more space than other new build homes we had seen before buying here. We moved in quickly, ahead of schedule. It’s such an exciting process, a little overwhelming when it’s your first property and you have no idea what you need and how much, but it’s been a lot of fun. And, three months on, we still find ourselves scrolling online for things to buy and visiting furniture shops looking for more things for the house.”

Miller Homes is building a total of 349 homes at Norwood Quarter, off Berrywood Road in Northampton. The first residents, including Tamsin and Josh, began moving in this summer.

In their spare time, Tamsin and Josh enjoy spending time travelling across the country exploring different towns and cities as well as seeking new locations for country walks.

Josh says: “We will be getting a dog early this year, which will make the house feel more homely still. Both Tamsin and I have left our family homes where we always had pets, so it was inevitable that we would have our own dog once we settled into the house. We like to spend our weekends away from Northampton, exploring new places and experiencing something different. Norwood Quarter has great transport links, being on the edge of the town but still situated close to the M1, which means we are able to get away and enjoy new experiences whilst still having the all-important transport links and an easy commute to our places of work in Northampton. It’s a great feeling to own your own home. We couldn’t recommend Miller Homes more as a developer, the process from start to finish was faultless. The sales managers, site team and the after sales team we have dealt with throughout the process were absolutely fantastic. We love it here!”

Norwood Quarter offers a collection of two-bedroom apartments, with prices starting from £225,000, and three-, four- and five-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £313,000.
