First-Time Parents Become First-Time Buyers In Newton Mearns

Posted 16 December 2020 by Keith Osborne

Susan and Darren have moved into their ideal long-term family home at a popular Miller Homes development near Glasgow...

It has been a big year for Susan and Darren Haniford, buying the perfect home for themselves and baby Oliver at Miller Homes’ popular Crofthead development in Newton Mearns.

Susan (29) is a scientist for the NHS and husband Darren (31) is a principal teacher and they picked up the keys to their first family home in July. It’s a four-bedroom ‘Lamont’ house type which offers plenty of room to grow and ticked all the boxes for the couple.

Susan said: “The bay window really delivered the ‘wow factor’ for us; it’s the first thing you see as you pull up to the house and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. We’ve even had people passing by give us compliments on the feature, which has been so lovely.

“We love that our new home is so bright, and natural light floods into every room. With family life being so new to us, we’re conscious that we don’t want to outgrow our new home any time soon – but we really don’t have to worry as we very much see this as our forever home. The additional bedrooms mean we have so much space, and the lounge is just perfect for us to spend quality time together.”

Outdoor space was a must-have for the family too, and the home offers plenty of that. Darren added: “It’s really special for us to have a big garden, especially as Oliver gets older. We’re really lucky to have such a large green space at the front of the house, and we’re in the process of getting decking put down in the back garden, which will be great in the spring and summer months. It has been so exciting to add all of these personal touches to our new home.”

The ‘Lamont’ also offers a laundry room off the kitchen, which was another feature that was on the Haniford’s wish list.

The location was also important for Susan and Darren, Newton Mearns is a community that they know and love, and they have close friends and family living nearby and they found the purchase and move an extremely smooth experience with Miller Homes.

Susan said: “It’s been a bit of a whirlwind for us. Over lockdown, we decided to take the plunge and buy our dream home. The team at Miller Homes supported us the whole way, where no question asked was a silly one. The development sales managers went above and beyond, from delivering tiles to our front door so we could take time to decide what would look best, to making sure we were settling into the neighbourhood okay. We can’t thank them enough for the on-going support they have offered.”

Darren agreed: “It has been such an enjoyable experience where any stress associated with moving house was removed by the incredibly supportive team at Miller Homes.

“It’s been very exciting seeing our new neighbours arrive and we already know that this friendly community is the one for us.”

There are a variety of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes available starting at £315,000.
