Leicestershire Retirees Find New Place To Call Home
Posted 8 November 2021 by
Helen ChristieWhen Leicestershire couple Liz and Frank Muston made the decision to move from their self-build chalet bungalow in Burbage where they had lived for the last 30 years to somewhere that better suited what they wanted from a home, they did not have to go far to find their perfect property.
Just a mile and a half down the road, in Hinckley, the couple found a bungalow at McCarthy Stone’s Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens development that Mrs Muston set on from the first time she saw it – while doing some online research.
Mrs Muston, 79, says: “The chalet bungalow in Burbage was our home for so many years, but in recent times the stairs were becoming a problem. My husband Frank is living with dementia and he had a trip. The garden wasn’t particularly big, but there was no way I could look after it by myself. So we started to think about moving to somewhere that was a little easier for both of us.
“I had heard about the McCarthy Stone development in Hinckley and I looked it up on the internet. There was one bungalow design that stood out to me – the Hazel – so we went along to the development, met Rebecca, the sales consultant and had a look around. We both loved it and we made the decision to reserve the plot.
“Of course we had our own property to sell before we could move, but we took advantage of McCarthy Stone’s Part Exchange scheme which meant we didn’t have the hassle and worry of selling our property. It also sped everything up and we got the keys to our new bungalow within a matter of weeks! During that time we went through the process of sorting through our possessions and working out what we wanted to take with us. That was quite tough, my advice to anyone would be not to leave it until you’re my age to do this!”
Situated on Short Way, Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens comprises 16 stylish and low maintenance freehold Retirement Living bungalows from McCarthy Stone, exclusively for the over-55s. Every individual property has its own private rear garden and parking and selected plots also have garages.
Mrs Muston explained exactly what she loves about the couple’s new bungalow: “The Hazel has got two good sized bedrooms, a large lounge, a kitchen/ diner and utility room. There’s plenty of space for us and I’ve never had a walk-in wardrobe before, it’s lovely! We really liked the double-fronted design of the bungalow too. It’s just right for us and the lifestyle we want to enjoy now.”
Married for 62 years, Mr and Mrs Muston first met when they worked at the GPO in Leicester Telephone Exchange. The couple now have a son and daughter, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
“Our friends have all been to visit and they really like it here– they think it’s nice,” Mrs Muston adds. “And so do we! Yes it was a big move for us, we had lived in our previous house for so many years, but now we’re here and I actually think our new home is better!”
Cheryl Bissett, divisional sales and marketing director for McCarthy Stone, says: “It’s very rewarding to see people such as Mr and Mrs Muston find a new place to call home at Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens – a home that perfectly suits their requirements and provides all the benefits of low maintenance, luxury living. Our bungalows are always very sought-after and it’s easy to see why when you hear just how much our homeowners enjoy living in them.”
Prices at Elizabeth Coxhead Gardens currently start from £249,950 for a one-bedroom bungalow and from £309,950 for a two-bedroom bungalow.
