Family Upsize To Sought-After Chertsey Development

Posted 24 May 2022 by Helen Christie

Vanessa and Laurence upsized to a spacious home at Barratt Homes’ Eldebury Place development…

Vanessa and her husband Lawrence, were keen to upsize to Chertsey with their baby daughter, thanks to the area’s countryside feel and excellent schools.

Combining the proceeds from the sale of their two-bedroom flat in Sunbury and a generous deposit contribution from Barratt Homes, the couple were able to purchase a spacious three-bedroom family home at Barratt Southern Counties’ Eldebury Place development in Chertsey, Surrey.

Vanessa and Lawrence had purchased their flat three years ago, but after enduring a lengthy lockdown in a flat with a newborn baby and their three-year-old dog, they knew something had to change. With house prices continuing to rise and demand for family homes at an all-time high, they switched their strategy and decided to turn to a more modern townhouse style.

Vanessa, a chartered company secretary, comments: “We were watching as house prices continued to climb and let’s face it, flats weren’t really in demand at the time! We put our flat on the market and it took four months to sell which was a real worry. By the time we had the cash, we were keen to make a quick move and knew that we wanted to purchase a new build home. At the time, Barratt was also offering a deposit contribution which meant we were able to get a slightly smaller mortgage than expected.

“The thought of moving into a brand new home with a baby was very appealing, as we knew we didn’t want to stress of having to paint or decorate an older property. We were also drawn to the energy efficiency credentials that go hand in hand with a new home – much lower energy bills and a warmer house. Since moving in, we have especially enjoyed having our own outdoor space. To go from nothing to such a lovely garden is a huge bonus, and it’s made the world of difference to our quality of life.”

Vanessa and Lawrence were the first family to move into the development, and have noticed there are plenty of similarities between their household and their neighbours. “Almost everyone who lives along our road is a young couple or a young family with children,” says Vanessa. “It’s really heart-warming to see, and is exactly what we envisioned when we started a family. Eldebury Place is such a family-focussed development, and it feels so safe here for our children.”

Kimberley Benson, sales and marketing director at Barratt Southern Counties, comments: “Since its launch, Eldebury Place has continued to be a popular choice for young families or those thinking about starting a family soon. With its semi-rural feel, connections to key towns and the capital, and excellent schools including Salesian School nearby, Chertsey ticks all the boxes for suburban families hoping to snap up a spacious property in much-coveted commuterland.”

Another added bonus for the couple is that Lawrence, who is a PT, is planning to expand his business in Chertsey. “There is so much outdoor space within the development and wider area that it’s perfect for Lawrence to host one to one sessions with his clients,” adds Vanessa. “Fitness is really important to us as a family, and moving to Eldebury Place will allow us to pursue this more both personally and professionally thanks to the green open spaces.”

Eldebury Place is set close to Guildford Street in Chertsey, where residents can find a variety of shops, banks and cafes, alongside a good choice of restaurants and bars. Thorpe Park is also just a short drive away. The development is a short walk from Chertsey Rail Station, from which London Waterloo and Weybridge can be reached in around 48 and 28 minutes. There are also a number of local bus routes connecting residents to Woking, Addlestone and Kingston-upon-Thames. For journeys by car, key roads including the M3, M25 and A320 are nearby, providing access to key destinations including Woking, Staines-upon-Thames and Heathrow Airport.

Currently available at Eldebury Place is a collection of four- and five-bedroom family homes, with prices starting from £719,995.
