When Joy Petley and her husband Alan decided they wanted to move into a new build home after visiting their friends’ new home on New Year’s Eve, they didn’t need to look any further than Cavanna Homes’ Alfred’s Gate development in Newton Poppleford, near Sidmouth.

“We didn’t look at any other homes, our minds were made up and we reserved our dream home. It was like it was meant to be!” says Joy, a fundraising manager who has moved into a Yarner style property with Alan, a finance manager, their seven-month-old son Toby and their two cats, Panda and Paddington.

Joy continues: “We lived in Rockbeare in a fixer-upper, which needed a lot of work doing to it. When we visited our friends new build house we decided we wanted to move into a new build which we could enjoy and not have to worry about having lots of work to do to it, especially with a young child.”

“I started looking online and came across Alfred’s Gate. The properties looked really nice, so my husband had a look on Cavanna Homes’ website and saw the Yarner style, and that was it, his mind was made up. We went and had a look around and absolutely loved it! Alan was adamant that he didn’t want to move unless it was into this house."

Alan says: “I loved this house as soon as I saw it, the layout was what really sold it to us and was our main motivator for buying it. The lounge is upstairs with amazing views onto the fields and with beautiful wooden beams – it’s definitely my favourite room. It’s just so easy to live here."

Joy adds: “With a young child we needed somewhere that Toby could explore in his walker safely, and with a downstairs open plan kitchen / dining area this was the perfect layout for us!”

“The whole development was exactly what we were looking for; all the homes have their own individual look and it’s a brilliant size – we couldn’t ask for more, there’s a nice feel about it. We’d also reserved early on in the building stage, which meant we were able to choose our kitchen and bathroom fittings, adding our own personal touch.

We had an offer on our home the very next day so we were very impressed, but it also meant that we could focus on our new home without the stress or worry of selling our old one.
