Downsizer Finds Right New Home In The Same Development
An 81-year-old homebuyer in Newark has downsized into a new property in the same neighbourhood he has called home since 2004, thanks to finding the right choice with David Wilson Homes.
Homebuyer Charles has chosen to remain at Fernwood Village, a development of high-quality new build homes in the Newark village of Fernwood. He began his search for a new home in November 2022, and after searching for older properties, he quickly realised that his heart remained in the neighbourhood.
After his wife's passing in 2022 and, with two of his three sons having moved away some time ago from their spacious five-bedroom house at Fernwood Village, Charles decided it was time to downsize and find a cosier space.
He said: “My previous home on the original Fernwood development had become too big under the circumstances, and although I looked at other developments and older properties, I was ultimately drawn back to David Wilson Homes and the Fernwood neighbourhood.
“It was the design of the ‘Exeter’ style home at Fernwood Village that caught my attention through its layout of the downstairs area, in particular the kitchen, as well as the size of the third and fourth bedrooms upstairs. It’s given me the opportunity to have one as a study and the other as second guest bedroom and workroom.
“My new property feels more like a home than the last larger house where I just didn’t use many rooms towards the end.”
Charles didn't initially plan to buy a new build again, but he was drawn to the clean, fresh canvas and the opportunity to put his own stamp on it. This decision marked the purchase of his fourth new build home since he married in 1968.
He expressed his satisfaction with the fresh start offered by his new David Wilson home while still enjoying the comforting familiarity of the Fernwood Village community, saying: “I was on holiday in Tenerife and ended up accepting an offer on my previous property while relaxing on a sun lounger. When I returned from my holiday, I visited the Fernwood Village marketing suite and reserved a home straightaway – it was a very quick turnaround.”
Charles benefited from financial incentive from the developer under its bills contribution scheme, which consists of monthly payments over two years totalling to £20,000.
He said: “It was good to receive the funds under the offer, as this helped to cover the expenses for furnishings and personalisation costs. I reserved my home just in time to personalise it, and I chose the flooring within minutes of placing my deposit.”
Active in the community, Charles was previously in the Fernwood Resident’s Association and afterwards became Parish Clerk for four years. He has also been a local hospital volunteer for 16 years. The location of Fernwood has benefitted Charles as he attends the local bowls club in Balderton, and he plans to take part in wellbeing walks with a local walking group.
Speaking about his experience with David Wilson Homes, Charles praised the helpfulness of the employees at Fernwood Village. He said: “The sales staff, Catherine, Kerry and Kim were great and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for the team.”
