City Family Ups Sticks To Start New Life In Renfrewshire
Lisa McDonnell, husband Andrew and their three young sons Caedan (10), Shay (8) and Dara (4), have recently swapped Glasgow city life for a new start in the countryside, having moved into a David Wilson home at the award-winning Dargavel Village in Bishopton.
Although just 15 miles from Glasgow, Dargavel feels like a world away with its country backdrop and the whole family has fallen in love with the area. All the facilities they need are close by, including shops, restaurants and cafés and sports facilities as well as walks and safe routes for the children to ride their bikes.
The family chose the four-bedroom ‘Dalmally’ style home due to the spacious rooms, large open-plan kitchen dining area and private garden – and it’s safe to say that they have settled in extremely well. Middle child Shay loves his new home so much that he’s become an unofficial David Wilson Homes ambassador, even dressing up as David Wilson for Halloween, which saw a bemused Lisa sourcing a tie and shirt and crafting an ID badge from the sales brochure. And no costume would be complete without a cuddly toy version of the David Wilson golden retriever mascot, complete with big red bow.
In fact, the McDonnell’s were so taken by the golden retriever mascot that they soon added their very own to the family, welcoming Brèagha just after Christmas. “We are enjoying lots of walks together around the Dargavel area and there’s a range of local services on hand which are really helpful, such as dog walking, a local pet store and grooming,” said Lisa.
The community feel of Dargavel is something Lisa adores, and she is keeping her calendar full of events for the summer months, saying: “I absolutely love the fact that there is a community feel in Dargavel. There are lots of activities like volunteering and fitness groups and there’s a monthly farmers market too. The whole area is also getting ready for the 50th Anniversary celebration of Bishopton Day, and we’re looking forward to a big David Wilson community BBQ which the sales team is organising.”
The family-oriented nature of Dargavel is something Lisa can’t stress enough. On sunny days, her children meet up with friends from the neighbourhood to play outdoors, which the adults use as an opportunity to catch up. Many of the children attend the new Dargavel Primary School and head off on adventures around the local area’s variety of play parks. Days out to nearby Finlaystone Country Park, Boden Boo forests and Lunderston Bay are also family favourites.
Inside the home, Lisa opted for a few upgrades offered by David Wilson Homes prior to moving in, including stone worktops, fitted wardrobes and flooring. As the home was finished to a high standard, only a few finishing touches have been required since the family have moved in. These include the addition of a new fireplace to the living room and mirroring a wall in the family bathroom, ensuite and the downstairs WC. Over time they’ll put their own stamp on the décor.
