Location History Suits Career Ambitions Of Relocated Family
A Hampshire couple have not only secured a new home, but also a platform to boost their son’s ambition to join the Army due to Wellesley’s rich military history.
Claire Crathern and Colin Campbell, originally from Guildford and London respectively, have moved to David Wilson Homes’ development Bruneval Gardens near Aldershot with their son, Ben Crathern (15), who is hoping to become part of the Armed Forces at 16. It’s a perfect location, often referred to as the ‘Home of the British Army’.
Dating back to 1854 during the Crimean War, Britain’s first purpose-built military base since the Roman era was established in Aldershot. Many local residents also have strong ties with the Cambridge Military Hospital, whilst Aldershot Garrison became an infamous base for the Army for martial training and medical discovery.
Claire said: “Ben’s always been very military focused. He’s in the Cadets, has the Army Careers Office nearby as well as the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, so we’re well-positioned to support his career goals.
“In the meantime, his school is in walking distance and in our new townhouse; he’s got the main bedroom with an en suite so he’s got his independence and privacy when required. He loves it.
“Having a three storey home benefits all of us because Colin and I work night shifts in Surrey, so having a spare bedroom on the second floor gives us a peaceful space for us to rest after work.”
Claire and Colin used the Part Exchange scheme to secure a three-bedroom ‘Greenwood’ style property, meaning a process which can often take longer was completed in just over six weeks after first looking at the development.
The reason for their move was to upsize, but it also gave the family more room to grow alongside a financial investment.
Claire added: “At first, I wasn’t sure about a new build or a townhouse but the ‘Greenwood’ offered something different and it flows really well. The spacious kitchen and dining area will be ideal for hosting dinner parties, but we’ve also got a comfortable lounge on the first floor and a study should we need a workspace at home.
“We liked the idea of purchasing a property with no DIY required, it already had a quality finish and the structural warranties were reassuring.
“We can’t rate Elaine (sales adviser) highly enough, as she went above and beyond for us and the aftercare service from Luke (trainee assistant site manager) was excellent as well.”
Alongside the commuting opportunities, Bruneval Gardens’ location suited Claire and Colin with local supermarkets, plus the choice of towns for shopping elsewhere whether it’s Aldershot or Farnham. Homebuyers can enjoy rural surroundings, highly-rated schooling options, strong commuter links and unparalleled access to the area’s heritage.
Rob Allen, sales director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “The military history of Wellesley and the surrounding areas is one full of heritage and it’s great to hear how useful this is proving to be for Claire, Colin and Ben.
“We’re always happy to hear our customers are enjoying their new homes. Bruneval Gardens is flourishing and we’re excited to see the development progress.”
David Wilson Homes is currently offering a selection of one-, two- and four-bedroom homes available at Bruneval Gardens with prices starting from £219,000.
