Best Of Both Worlds For West End Mover
When Michael Thomson was on the search for his forever home, he was looking to find somewhere that was unique and full of character, but it wasn’t until he discovered the David Stow building at Cala’s Jordanhill Park development in Glasgow’s West End that he realised he could purchase a new build home that ticked all the boxes.
Having previously lived in a tenement flat in Kelvinbridge for 10 years, Michael was looking for a home that had the character and dimensions of an older property but benefited from the advantages of a new build home. When he viewed one of the apartments in the David Stow building at Jordanhill Park however, he found exactly what he was looking for and realised he could have the best of both worlds.
Michael says: “I first viewed the apartment in October 2021, when it was brand-new to the market, and I quickly reserved the following month, as I realised this was the home I had been searching for. I loved my older style apartment but wanted all the benefits of new - and thought this would be impossible to find. I was delighted that the David Stow, which is so full of charm and history, meant I need not compromise on what I was looking for. I got my keys and moved into my one of a kind apartment in July 2022, so the whole process only took about nine months in total.
“I owned my previous property for more than 10 years, and I loved it, but I was ready for something new, and the David Stow building fitted my specifications exactly and ticked all of my boxes. The building has been sympathetically restored by Cala Homes (West), and I love how they have retained the charm and character of the historical building whilst I can enjoy all the benefits and energy efficiencies of a brand-new property.”
Michael was also looking for a home where he could entertain his friends and family, he continues: “In my previous home I didn’t have open plan living so I wondered how I’d adjust to this new style of living. But it didn’t take long, and I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect space for me to host dinner and social gatherings. Another feature of my new home which helped make my mind up is the fantastic light throughout the apartment. I have large crittal style windows which really create lots of space and open up every room even in the darker months, and the views from the front of the building onto the parklands are stunning.”

For Michael, the process of buying his new Cala home was simple and structured, which he thought made his journey stress-free. He says: “The sales team are a real asset to Cala, they were always on hand to help. They still take the time to check in on me and they are quick to respond when I have any queries. They really go the extra mile, and they genuinely enjoy seeing people moving into their dream homes. It made my experience enjoyable.”
The location was another massive selling point for Michael, who loves how quiet and peaceful the area is. He adds: “Having lived in this part of the city before, I knew this location would be perfect for me. It’s so easy for me to get to the city centre whilst I’m only minutes from the hustle and bustle of the streets of the west end. Living in the David Stow where old meets new, surrounded by the lush parklands and a short walk into all that the west end brings with it offers the perfect lifestyle for me, I am delighted to call it home.”
The category B-listed David Stow building, at the heart of Cala’s Jordanhill Park development, has been transformed from the former Jordanhill College into a unique collection of 64 luxury apartments retaining the building’s history and heritage whilst incorporating modern 21st century living.
The David Stow Collection is now over 70% sold, with a number of one-of-a-kind apartments available for a summer 2023 move in with a variety of incentives on offer.
Prices at the David Stow building start from £259,995 for a one-bedroom apartment.
