Buying is Cheaper than Renting for Family in Rugby

Posted 16 April 2019 by Helen Christie

A young family found it was cheaper to buy than rent at Crest Nicholson's Hansford Park in Rugby...

For Joelle Tosti, 35, her husband Bhupinder Singh, 38, and their three children, aged 4, 8 and 10, getting on the housing ladder was not something they thought they could afford.

However, with the Help to Buy scheme the couple have recently purchased a four-bedroom house for £364,950 at Crest Nicholson’s Hansford Park development, in the new neighbourhood of Houlton, Rugby.

Bhupinder, an IT Consultant who works from home, explains: “We were disappointed with high rents in Rugby, so decided to look into the costs of buying. When we discovered the Help to Buy scheme we realised that the £18,000 we already had saved would be enough for a deposit on a house. Now we have upsized from renting a three-bedroom house in Rugby, to owning a four-bedroom house at Hansford Park. Our rent on the smaller home cost us £1,100 a month, however our mortgage costs on the larger property are around £950, meaning we are saving £150 a month! We also have the added benefit that this is a new build, so the quality is very high.”

Hansford Park from Crest Nicholson comprises a contemporary collection of one- and two-bedroom apartments, and two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, ideal for young professionals, downsizers and families alike. Each home is contemporary in design, with floor to ceiling windows to maximise light and spacious open plan layouts, ideal for entertaining.

Bhupinder comments: “The design of the house is perfect for us. It is very modern, with an open plan layout which makes it feel very light inside. The space has also been well utilised for families. We have used one of the bedrooms to create an office space where I work from home. There is fibre on site so I never have any problems with internet connection.”

Hansford Park forms part of an exciting new community in Houlton with access to a range of local amenities, including an awarding winning eatery, a primary school, local family play area and 500 acres of beautiful, green space on the doorstep. The neighbourhood is also continuing to grow, with a brand new secondary school expected to open in September 2021.

Joelle says: “We are really happy with the community here. It is unique and our neighbours are lovely – it’s like one big family. All our children go to the new primary school, St Gabriel’s, which opened in September. It is a huge bonus to have this on our doorstep, especially as when we were renting in Rugby, we couldn’t find a school for the children, so had to take them to Coventry every day. When the new secondary school is built and they are old enough, the kids will also go there.”

Joelle concludes: “Our experience with Crest Nicholson was great, the sales team were very friendly and helpful which made all the difference for us.”

Prices at Hansford Park start from £164,950 for a one-bedroom apartment, with two-bedroom apartments from £179,950. Three-bedroom homes start at £259,950 and £329,950 for a four-bedroom home.
