Helen ChristieWhen newlyweds Avery, 25, and Max, 26, Andrew started searching for their first home to buy in Cornwall, little did they know the first one they visited would be ‘the one’.
The couple had already ruled out purchasing an older, smaller property that might need work, and instead started searching for a new build home close to some of Cornwall’s beautiful beaches, and where they could each have their own office, as they both work from home.
Their wish list also included having the space they needed, the appliances they wanted, and of course, their new home had to be within budget. That’s when they discovered Blackberry Lane, a collection of just 34 new homes, traditionally crafted by bunnyhomes in Kilkhampton on the north Cornish coast close to the Devon border.
Avery explains: “We started our search and Blackberry Lane came up. It was ticking all our boxes, so we decided to take a look for ourselves. We viewed the three-bedroom ‘Rose Cottage’ and immediately fell in love with it, especially because it has an additional garden room. That really sold it to us as it is the perfect home office for my husband. It means we didn’t have to use one of the bedrooms as an office, so we get to have a guest room as well! We knew straight away that we had found our perfect new home in exactly the right location, and we put an offer in there and then. A month later we had moved in!”
Being able to move to their new home so quickly was a plus for Avery and Max, they have friends who had waited up to a year to move into a new home in the area the previous year and they didn’t want to wait that long.
The couple hired an independent financial adviser, while bunnyhomes’ helpful team provided all the help and support they needed.
Avery adds: “The team at Blackberry Lane knew this was to be our first home and answered any questions we had, no matter how small. It was great to feel like our needs and questions mattered. We wanted to move quickly, but we didn’t expect it to be that fast! Friends and family have been genuinely shocked at how smoothly everything went and the service bunnyhomes provides.”
When it came to their new home being handed over, the pair were equally as pleased with the process. Max says: “Before we moved in, we had a full walkthrough of our new home with Steven the sales advisor and Mike, the site manager, to confirm everything looked good for us. They told us as well that they had already walked through our home multiple times before taking us through it. That meant we only found a few small issues and it was very easy to use the portal we had been given to report them. They were all resolved quickly – even as soon as the same day.”
Now Avery and Max have settled in, they have reflected on their decision to move to Blackberry Lane.
Avery says: “Things have been great so far. We love the potential of our new neighbourhood now it is almost complete and everyone on the development has been super kind and helpful. I just moved to Cornwall from America and I didn't want to feel out of place. We love all the room for storage in the home too. As we fill it up and settle in, it has been super helpful, especially the bunny storage under the stairs. And while having eco-friendly and sustainable features weren't that high up on our list of priorities when we were first looking, having learnt more about it from the site manager we now appreciate how much these aspects of our new bunnyhome can positively affect our monthly bills.”
When asked what they love about their move, Avery is categorical: “We just love that it is ours! We love that the home was a blank canvas to really make it our own. We love the location as well as our neighbours. We had never heard of Kilkhampton and we love that bunnyhomes has showed us a new side of Cornwall that we might have never visited. Now it’s our home.”
And would they recommend bunnyhomes to anyone looking for a new home in Cornwall? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’.
Avery explains: “I would certainly recommend bunnyhomes. I feel like our home was the best value for our budget. We were pleasantly surprised at the very high quality here, within our affordability range. I never thought we could afford a new build.”
She adds: “When you’re looking at a brand new home you have more to choose from, look at them all. We thought we wanted the Rose Cottage on plot 3, but in the end we chose plot 4. And once you’ve chosen your new home, look at all your options - the type of appliances that work for you, the flooring, kitchen cabinet colours, etc. It really is a new canvas to make your own. I love to be in the kitchen, so it was important for me to have counter space and good appliances, all of which we found in our new home.”
Avery concludes: “We loved the decor in the showhome and drew inspiration from it. We told ourselves that if we didn't get this home we would gladly wait for the next bunnyhomes neighbourhood at Bramble Lane, Kilkhampton.”
