Shared Ownership For A Second Time For Gloucestershire Retiree
Posted 5 September 2022 by
Keith Osborne78-year-old Mary Patricia Grace (who goes by Pat) has found her perfect home at one of Bromford’s Shared Ownership developments for the second time.
The retired emergency nurse practitioner first purchased from Bromford via Shared Ownership back in 1997, and lived in the home until 2016. She said of the scheme: “I would definitely recommend Shared Ownership, because of it I have a small legacy to leave to my son. It’s also a wonderful way for young people to start out on the property ladder.”
Shared Ownership gives first-time buyers and those who do not currently own a property the chance to secure a new build home. Homebuyers pay a mortgage on the share they own, and pay rent on the remaining share, meaning only a smaller deposit is required. Purchasers can also increase their share during their time in the property.
This year, Pat fell in love with a one-bedroom apartment at Bromford’s The Avenue development in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. Having previously been renting in Norfolk, Pat was drawn to the home as a new build property meant there would be no large bills on upkeep or repairs, and because it was much closer to her friends and family.
She added: “Having lived in the Cotswolds from 1980 I still call it home. I like that it’s in the countryside while still having convenient shops, a railway station and Birmingham airport close by.”
Alongside the location, Pat was also delighted with the size of the home, and was particularly impressed with the hall and sizeable bedroom. The extra space was important as she needed somewhere to store her impressive collection of teapots.
She said: “My favourite thing about my new apartment is the warmth, and knowing that I am safe in my home. Moving during the pandemic was no problem thanks to the excellent service I received from Bromford throughout the process. With the hassle of moving out of the way, I have had more time to connect with the very friendly local community.”
