Countryside Relocation For Young Family

Posted 19 November 2020 by Helen Christie

A young family left London to a brand new home in the country and are counting their blessings as well as their savings each month...

Georgina and Matthew Perry, two-year-old Madeline and one-week-old Oliver have just bought a three-bedroom semi-detached home at Bewley Homes’ highly desirable Watership Place development in Whitchurch having moved out of their flat in Streatham.

Where life is on the way up, Georgina is delighted to say living costs are on the way down. The families’ mortgage payments on their £399,950 home are lower than that of their London mortgage and they now enjoy three times the living space!

Georgina explains: “It seems incredible that we have so much more living space, our own hall, stairs, large garden and a garage. Our mortgage payments are less than before and this covers the cost of commuting by train into Waterloo.”

Watership Place in Whitchurch is a ‘Garden Village’ collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes created by housebuilder Bewley Homes. The properties are proving hugely popular for residents looking for a more relaxed lifestyle within a thriving semi-rural community. The fact that you can live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst still remaining so well connected via road and rail to London and other key towns across Hampshire and Berkshire, is one of the many advantages.

It’s an exciting time for the family as they settle into their new life in the peaceful Hampshire countryside with a new arrival.

Both Georgina, who is currently on maternity leave from her job as a PA and husband, Matthew, who is a user experience designer, have busy careers in London, which they did not want to give up. The fact that a regular fast train service gets you from Whitchurch’s railway station into London Waterloo in an hour makes having the best work life balance possible.

Georgina says: “My journey into work when I lived in Streatham involved a walk, a bus and then the tube and would take longer than my commute from Whitchurch into London.”

Georgina continues: “Although we knew of the area around Whitchurch and Andover, it was my sister who told us about Bewley’s development at Watership Place. As soon as we took a trip to go and look at the then old show home, we realised we needn’t consider looking anywhere else.

“When we visited the show home, we were totally swayed by the large light rooms, the beautiful finish, the luxury specification and the generous sized garden. Even details like the style of windows was exceptional, adding character to the properties and making them feel individual.”

The family have settled into their new home already and are planning to put their own stamp on the interiors over time. They feel it’s been worth the wait from seeing the house being built to now having finally got the keys.

Georgina says: “I still can’t get over having our own front door, our own hallway and stairs after living in a small flat. Just having somewhere to leave the pushchair, a driveway for parking and a garage, which Matthew insisted on for his DIY, makes everyday life with young children so much easier.

“We feel so lucky to have made this move during the pandemic. We’ve also been able to take advantage of the Stamp Duty holiday.”

Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director at Bewley Homes, comments: “Buyers moving out of London are finding they are reducing their monthly financial outgoings and getting far more space for their money.”

“It’s not surprising that we’ve received such positive interest from buyers as this really is an ideal location for all the family – close to the village centre, surrounded by beautiful walks and the River Test. Excellent proximity to the A34 and road network to M3 and the local train station provides fast access to London Waterloo, which makes this a perfect commuter destination with a real sense of community.”

Prices start from £399,950 for a three-bedroom home at Watership Place.
