A newly married couple have moved from London to Surrey and used a Part Exchange scheme to go from a two-bedroom apartment to a four-bedroom detached house.

Jessica and Lewis King, both 30, wed in March 2019 and used to live in Balham, but in moving just 14 miles south to Rivernook Farm in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey, they were able to swap their flat for a brand new ‘Willow’ house type at Bellway’s Walton Park.

Jessica, who works in advertising, said: “We had lived in our flat for five years, and after getting married, we wanted to find somewhere bigger, outside London, where we could one day start a family. Living in London, you really do pay above the odds. You can get so much more for your money moving just outside of London and commuting in.

“Our flat was a new build, so we knew that’s what we wanted again. There are so many benefits to buying new. We wanted a blank canvas so we could decorate the house and make it our own.

“When we came across Walton Park, we looked at a few different homes, but the ‘Willow’ really stood out to us. We enjoy relaxing in the living room, and this home has a beautiful lounge space with French doors leading into the back garden. It’s perfect.”

Dorset-born Jessica and software engineer Lewis, who grew up in Croydon, met at Portsmouth University and have been together for 11 years.

Jessica continued: “We knew we loved the house, but we still wanted to find out more about the area. We walked down the river, and went to one of the local pubs. It was lovely. We can really see ourselves starting a family here. There are lots of great amenities, local schools and leisure facilities.”

The Part Exchange scheme, where Bellway purchases the customer’s previous property based on an independent valuation, meant to a faster, cheaper and easier move all round.

Jessica said: “Buying can be so stressful, but Part Exchange took that all away. We’d fallen in love with the house and were getting impatient. We just wanted to move in. Part Exchange made the process go so quickly, and we never felt under pressure or rushed. Bellway even offered us the whole weekend to move in, which is something you wouldn’t see if you were part of a chain.

“Everyone at Bellway was friendly and helpful, and they kept us informed throughout the process.”

The couple moved into Walton Park in January and because of lockdown, have enjoyed spending more time at home together, though they are looking forward to welcoming family round again.

Jessica added: “This home has been invaluable during lockdown; it has made a huge difference. The weather has been lovely, and our living room has French doors into the garden which is perfect on the sunny days.

“We are both working from home right now so we have turned one of the rooms into a home office, but we will still work from the kitchen or lounge sometimes too as they’re both so spacious.”

Walton Park is a development of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, with a current a choice of properties available, priced from £424,995. Find out more about Walton Park from Bellway.
