Key Worker First-Time Buyers In Clitheroe

Amy and Paul used a special buyer initiative for key workers to secure their ideal first home at Waddow Heights...

A young key-worker couple have become first-time homeowners after moving into their brand new property at Barratt Homes’ Waddow Heights in Clitheroe.

After completing five years at university and becoming a mental health nurse, Amy Darwin (27), and Paul Hillary (36), who is a plumber, are delighted to have secured their own home to set down roots in.

The couple were surprised at how much the NHS Scheme helped them with their purchase and are now reaping the benefits of being part of the new Waddington Road community.

Amy said: “The NHS scheme was a real bonus for us as we didn’t realise how much Barratt Homes contributed, allowing us to reserve with just a 5% deposit. This meant that we could buy extra things for the home, so everything was ready for as soon as we moved in.”

With many finding moving home very stressful, Paul and Amy were really pleased with the ease of the move. The couple felt that moving into a new build property helped them avoid the pressure many have to face. Amy added: “There was no hassle when moving in and the home was perfect as soon as we moved in.”

The help from Barratt Homes was also crucial in ensuring they could really enjoy taking that next step in their lives. Paul said: “The whole move with Barratt Homes was straightforward and we moved in on the exact date they told us from the start with no delays. It was really difficult for us to get a mortgage and Carol in the sales centre was really kind and held our plot for us.

“As soon as we moved in, it’s hard to explain, but it really felt like home.”

Paul and Amy are delighted with the location of their new home. “The position of our home is fantastic and looks out onto a field which is peaceful. We’re in a section of the development where there are only 15 or so homes which is separated by open space, which is fantastic.”

The area where the couple have settled, Ribble Valley, was recently found to be the happiest place to live in the UK. With scenic walks and the old market town of Clitheroe on their doorstep the couple have a bright future to look forward to.

The pair are also pleased with the neighbourhood at the Waddington Road development. Amy said: “The development has a great community feel with everyone wanting to get to know each other.”

Philippa Stewart, head of sales at Barratt Homes North West, is really pleased Paul and Amy have settled down and are enjoying their new home.

“At Barratt Homes we pride ourselves on providing the absolute best services and properties for our buyers – it’s always great to hear about those who have really benefited from our support. It is also great knowing we can help support and show appreciation to our carers with the NHS 5% Deposit Scheme. We encourage all NHS workers to take advantage of such a great opportunity.

“There are endless opportunities for couples like Paul and Amy to find their dream home in great locations across the country.”
