‘Whirlwind’ Year Doesn’t Stop Aberdeen Couple’s Move
When Kishani Calder and her then-fiancé Alex started planning their wedding for April 2021, the last thing they expected was a global pandemic turning their plans upside down. On top of that, they were looking to move into their dream home just after tying the knot.
After bringing the wedding forward to November 2020, the couple, who are both from Aberdeen, found themselves rearranging an entire wedding shortly before packing up and moving from a top floor flat to a three-bedroom home at Barratt Homes’ popular Riverside Quarter.
Kishani said: “It’s an understatement to say that 2020 was a whirlwind of a year for myself and Alex. We were due to get married in April 2021 but pulled the date forward because of uncertainties around the pandemic. This meant that we went from planning a wedding straight to researching and buying our new home – two of the biggest events in our lives so far.
“As if that wasn’t enough, the day we moved was also the day of a big snowstorm, so we got stuck with our belongings a few times as we made our way between properties.”
Luckily, the snowstorm was the biggest hurdle in the move for the couple, who are full of praise for the support they received from Barratt’s sales team. Kishani said: “Barratt was so supportive from the day we showed interest in the property, throughout the buying and moving process and in the aftercare we received – we really can’t fault them.”
When it came to choosing which house to buy, the couple agree that a Barratt home was a natural choice after growing up in the North-east and being impressed by the many Barratt communities. With a lot on their plates to organise with the wedding, the pair chose to use the housebuilder’s Part Exchange scheme, selling their existing flat to the company and trading it in as part-payment on their new build home – removing hassle and saving estate agency fees.
Being able to move into a high-specification new build home was particularly appealing, and a bonus was being close to both their workplaces and their families.
Ample space to relax was also key to Kishani and Alex’s choice, with the Bonnyton house type’s garden, open plan living and additional single bedroom meaning that their home will be flexible to change with their lifestyles.
Kishani continued: “My favourite part of our new home is the garden and having our own front door. After living in a top floor flat for a few years, we don't miss having to climb the stairs to get to our own front door and we love having space to go outside and use, with privacy.”
Barratt Homes at Riverside Quarter is a vibrant, family-friendly community just ten minutes from Aberdeen city centre. It brings a variety of modern two-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom homes with easy commuting and beautiful countryside surroundings – the real balance between city and rural living.
