Lockdown Couple Celebrate First Anniversary In Their New Home

Posted 16 March 2021 by Keith Osborne

Toby and Georgie moved in at Madgwick Park in Westhampnett just days before the first national lockdown in March 2020

A Chichester couple who moved into their first home together just days before the first national lockdown in March 2020 are marking a year in their first home together.

Georgie Morley and Toby Parr, both 23, were living separately with parents until they moved into their new home at Barratt Homes’ Madgwick Park in Westhampnett, on the outskirts of Chichester, West Sussex, just as the country closed down around them. Thanks to Barratt Homes pushing through a speedy move-in, the couple have been able to stay together over the last year together and avoided spending the initial lockdown apart.

As much of the country is feeling the pain of the year-long anniversary of lockdown, this couple see it as a reason to celebrate. As Georgie and Toby have now lived in their first home for a whole year, they plan to spend this special milestone – in lockdown!

Georgie said: “The staff at Barratt Homes were amazing. Although we were buying our new home in such a crazy time, we always felt safe in their hands. Thanks to them, Toby and I have been able to spend the lockdown setting up our first home and making it comfortable, instead of spending perhaps another year with our parents.”

Whilst the couple have always dreamed of owning their first home, it’s true that the couple had other ideas for how their first year might look. While Toby has continued to go out to work as a plumber, Georgie has spent most of the last year working from their new kitchen, so she is even more grateful they could move into their new home when they did.

She said: “The kitchen table has become my work desk and the development and local area is where Toby and I take our daily exercise with lots of lovely walks nearby.”

And as the country still feels the effects of the Covid pandemic, Georgie and Toby will be starting their second year living at Madgwick Park, as they did their first – inside for most of the time. Georgie continued: “I can’t believe we are now celebrating our one-year anniversary! But, it’s only right that we have our one-year celebration during lockdown too. It’ll be just the two of us for now, but we are already planning a big belated housewarming party for when we’re allowed!”

‘Roseberry’‘Roseberry’ house type

The couple opted for the two-bedroom ‘Roseberry’ property as their perfect first home. This house style comes with a spacious lounge and kitchen with dining space and French doors opening on to the garden – ideal for entertaining. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Tammy Bishop, sales director at Barratt Homes Southampton Division, congratulates the young couple as they mark their one-year milestone: “Moving into your first home is very special and we were so glad to be able to make this happen for Georgie and Toby last year. Barratt Homes’ priority is to keep its customers safe and happy and it’s lovely to see how the couple have been getting on. Moving in during lockdown is one thing but having to mark one year on, also in lockdown, is another challenge! Hopefully, there will be many more opportunities to celebrate with family and friends in the years to come. We wish them both all the best.”

Barratt Homes Madgwick Park is a collection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes in Westhampnett, Chichester. Three-bedroom homes currently start at £359,000.
