First Home For Couple At West London Development

Helen ChristieRecently married couple and first-time buyers, Victoria Wallace, 25, and her husband Ryan Adair, aged 33, bought their new home in Barratt London’s Hayes Village in March of last year.
The couple, who both work for whiskey brands, moved into the development from the WhatHouse? Award-winning developer last December and haven’t looked back. Hayes Village is just a 10-minute walk to Hayes and Harlington station, so the commute for the couple takes just half an hour, and the pair love being close to such fast transport links.
Previously, the couple lived in rented accommodation in Tower Hill. They decided to make the move due to their landlord increasing the rent by more than 50%. While also saving for a wedding, Victoria and Ryan were determined to make the best of their situation. They decided to move away from their rented home and looked towards purchasing a home in Hayes.
The couple were conscious that the Help to Buy scheme was coming to an end and knew they had to act quickly. Immediately attracted to Hayes Village’s proximity to the Elizabeth Line, both Victoria and Ryan found this a great advantage to the development. Both of their wider families also live outside of the country so, the 14-minute tube ride to Heathrow is a massive help to keep the two home buyers easily connected to their loved ones.
They comment: “We absolutely love our new apartment and especially the high ceilings at Hayes! The flat isn’t the largest space, but because of the beautiful height of the apartment, it feels so much larger. We love the art-deco style and the fact that we are living in a restoration project. The large windows and bright space looks and feels incredible. The community at Hayes is something we really didn’t expect; we have such welcoming and friendly neighbours and I think it helps that the average buyer at this development is around a similar age - we even invited a few neighbours to our wedding! We feel incredibly lucky to have found such a safe and open community. Now we are getting into the summer months, we are looking forward to exploring more of the open spaces Hayes has to offer.”
Victoria and Ryan saw their chance to secure their purchase and chose to move out of their rented accommodation. After renting for over six years, the couple are saving around £1000 a month on average with their new mortgage. Victoria comments: “A big perk of owning our own home – other than the savings – is being able to make it our own and absolutely we love having a project and putting our own maximalist touch on it. A few of our neighbours who live close by like to steal a few interior design ideas from us and vice versa, which makes the whole process a lot more fun! This is also something we wouldn’t be able to do as freely in our rented accommodation, with our monthly payments rising by 50%, we barely had the funds to stay, let alone decorate.”
Joe Antoniazzi, head of sales for Barratt West London, says: “Congratulations to Victoria and Ryan on purchasing their first home. Hayes Village is an exciting development, perfect for young professionals, due to the short commute from central London. While our homes can be found in London’s Zone 5, the Elizabeth Line means residents can be in the city centre in as little as 23 minutes. The line runs through important business centres such as Paddington, Farringdon, Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf which makes this the ideal location for commuters. The art-deco design and high ceilings maintained through restoration make our homes a spacious and creative living environment for our residents to enjoy.”
Due for completion in 2028, Hayes Village will provide 1,500 new homes to the community and open nine-acres of previously unused green space. This includes a 1.3km walking trail, 200m running track, the redevelopment of the canal frontage, and a new public square.
Prices at Hayes Village currently start from £329,000 for a one-bedroom apartment, with two- and three-bedroom homes also available.
