Part Exchanging To A Larger Aberdeen Home

Posted 17 May 2021 by Keith Osborne

A spacious home and garden were the priority for Kristine and Calvin when upsizing from a one-bedroom apartment...

Circumstances over the past year, including the intensity of being an NHS key worker and the need to work from home, made Aberdeen couple, Kristine and Calvin – along with labradoodle Betty – quickly realise their one bedroom wasn’t quite fit for purpose any longer.

When looking for a new property for the three of them, space – both indoors and outdoors – took priority.

Kristine said: “While we loved our traditional granite-style flat, and the location was really handy, the one-bedroom had become too small. With both Calvin and I being there quite a lot over the last year, we’d outgrown it and wanted more room.”

The couple hadn’t previously considered moving out of the city centre. But once they discovered the outdoor space at Countesswells, Kristine and Calvin were sold.

Calvin said: “Having lived in the centre of Aberdeen for a long time, we were hesitant to look elsewhere. It was only once we realised how close Countesswells was to lots of good walks and outdoor space, whilst still being close enough to the city, that we decided to really explore it further.”

“Knowing that there was soon to be a shop in the development for emergency milk (or wine), as well as there being a bus service linking us to the city, were crucial in our decision to purchase our home,” added Kristine.

The couple used Barratt’s Part Exchange service to sell their previous property and move into their new home, a four-bedroom ‘Fenton’ house type with an ample lounge and open-plan kitchen/dining room, in March 2021;

Part Exchange through Barratt Homes provides homeowners a guaranteed buyer for their current property at fair market value and without estate agent fees. They also benefit from buying and selling in one easy move and can stay in their old house until their new home is ready.

“We Part Exchanged our flat which was the biggest advantage for us moving. Overall, the whole process was great; I don’t think we could have moved without it. Jo (sales advisor), Davey (site manager) and James (Part Exchange manager), were great at helping us through the process,” said Kristine.

Kristine, Calvin and BettyHaving viewed the development and house type with a booked appointment, Kristine and Calvin were impressed with the qualities of their purchase when they finally moved in.

“We felt really lucky with the plot we got, the ‘Fenton’ has well-sized rooms, it’s detached and has a garage. But it wasn’t until we moved in properly that we were able to appreciate things like the amount of space, the warmth and actually how quiet and peaceful the surroundings are.”

When asked about their favourite room in the house, both Calvin and Kristine had their eye on summer. “It’s definitely the garden, it’s private and really spacious, also super light when the sun shines and perfect for Betty,” said Calvin.

“But we do have plans for inside the house too, we’ve already turned one room into a study so Calvin can work from home, and in time it will also be a ‘snug’. I am also hoping to turn another room into a music and craft room for myself. But with the good weather coming, the focus is definitely on the garden,” added Kristine.

Several Barratt Homes developments in the north of Scotland feature properties available for Part Exchange, including Westburn Gardens, Riverside Quarter, Hopecroft, Osprey Heights, Whiteland Coast and Countesswells.
