A New Home in a Renovated Grade II Listed Lodge

Posted 20 August 2019 by Helen Christie

A family have made their home in a renovated Grade II Listed lodge 20 years after first admiring the property…

Karyn Cartwright, 50, could not believe her luck when she visited Jones Homes’ Backford Hall development near Chester and discovered that The Lodge had been renovated and was on the market.

Karyn’s husband Gary, 55, had recently retired from his career as a project manager and the couple had just returned from banking his retirement cheque when they decided to visit the development.

Karyn says: “We had been looking for a new home for four years but couldn’t find anything that had enough land with it. We needed the garden space for our two English setters, Alfie and Cooper. We were talking to the builders on the site and after hearing about what we were looking for, they suggested The Lodge – the same one I’d admired for 20 years.

“We didn’t know it was for sale earlier that day but four hours later, with the help of sales advisor Sandra, The Lodge was ours. The site manager, Malcolm, has helped us with all our questions. Sandra would call us regularly before we moved in to update us on the process. They have all been so good to us.

“We were impressed that Jones Homes had created an amazing utility room made from unused space at the top of the stairs and they were very flexible with our needs.”

Jones Homes has sensitively restored the historic Backford Hall, its outbuildings and stables, in addition to building 45 new homes in the surrounding land at Backford Park.

The Lodge was one of the final buildings to be converted, along with the stable blocks.

Karyn continues: “The Lodge is like a celebrity because everyone around here knows it. Our friends enjoy telling people that they know someone who lives there.

“We’ve been here for two weeks and I pinch myself because I can’t quite believe it. We’re just in love. It’s fabulous.”

The couple have been settling into their new home along with their daughter Clair, 29, who is studying conservation and was keen to learn about the extensive ecological measures introduced by Jones Homes at Backford Park.

Karyn finishes: “Clair is in her element here. She was thrilled to see Jones Homes had created ponds for great crested newts – so much so that she is bringing her class here to have a look.”

Just five homes are now available to buy at Backford Hall and Backford Park. The Barn, a two-bedroom converted home is priced at £249,950. Two and three-bedroom homes are available at The Stables from £449,950 and one apartment is available in the main hall building – The Westminster, a two-bedroom apartment with three parking spaces priced at £595,000.
