New homes in Lancaster have lots to offer families

Although Lancaster is a small city, it packs quite a punch. Dominated by its castle, the city boasts a rich history, some lovely Georgian architecture, a well-regarded university, and a lively contemporary cultural scene. With the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales within easy striking distance, and the beaches of Morecambe and Blackpool nearby, the area also has plenty to offer in terms of leisure activities.

For commuters, the A6 passes through the city and the M6 passes just east of the city, offering easy connections to Preston, Manchester and other key destinations in the North West - while there is also a mainline railway station.

In a family-friendly city, it's no surprise to find that many of the new developments in and around Lancaster cater particularly well for the family market.

Within a five-mile radius of the city centre

Story Homes has a sustainable community of 197 three-, four- and five-bedroom family homes at High Wood, less than a mile and a half from the centre of Lancaster, priced from £189,950. Built on the former Lancaster Moor Hospital site, this development incorporates a mix of detached, semi-detached, terraced and town houses, designed using a blend of natural stone, render and brick, alongside pleasant outdoor space, new footpaths and cycleways that link to the existing network. Also just over a mile from the city centre, and coming soon from Barratt Homes, Riverside View will incorporate one- to four-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, situated about a mile from Lancaster's station, with lovely views over the River Lune.

Towards Morecambe, less than four miles from central Lancaster, Miller Homes has released phase three of their new one-, three- and four-bedroom homes at Millers Green, a quiet development within walking distance of the seafront and the leafy village of Heysham. Priced from £65,000 to £196,995, there are local schools nearby and the M6 offers easy access to Manchester, Preston and Liverpool. The train station at Heysham Port, a mile away, offers services into Lancaster and beyond. New homes in the surrounding area

Some 25 miles south of Lancaster on the Fylde coast, yet still within commuting distance, Redrow has New Heritage Collection homes available at Harbour Village in Fleetwood. Priced from £143,995, the homes have a tranquil marina setting with impressive views and shops close by. They offer easy access to the M55 and M6, and are close to Blackpool and the Lake District. Electric trams offer services to Blackpool, and nearby Thornton Station offers trains to Preston and other destinations.

A similar distance away from Lancaster, in the market town of Clitheroe, Barratt Homes' Ribble Meadows includes 135 one- to four-bedroom family homes priced from £179,995 to £218,995. Surrounded by parks and the Ribble Valley countryside, there are local shops within a five-minute drive, and easy access to the motorway.
