Video fly-through – new build and converted homes in Freshford Mill, Somerset

Posted 8 February 2016 by Keith Osborne

Take a virtual tour of the high-specification renovation of an historic Cotswold mill into a collection of beautiful new homes just six miles from Bath...

Developer Environ Communities is showing house-hunters looking for a characterful new home in Somerset exactly what they could be buying into with a superb video tour of it Freshford Mill scheme, which is located just six miles south-east of Bath.

At the south of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the development provides a rare opportunity to buy a new home in such a sought-after location. There will be 21 properties, some created from the renovation of long-neglected historic buildings, others sympathetically created alongside.

The homes vary from a two-bedroom apartment to a five-bedroom house, with prices ranging from £522,000 to £1.687m. All properties will have access to their own private outdoor space, in the form of balconies over the river or lake, or beautifully landscaped gardens, designed by award-winning landscape designer Julie Johnson.

Take a look at the fly-through video now:

The village of Freshford prospered as a result of its mill in the 14th and 15th centuries, but a Roman key found on the site in 2005 suggests a much longer history. The development seeks to bring the old buildings back to former glories and improve the site as a whole, with natural materials such as stone and rough-sawn timber being used externally and internally to coordinate the scheme and help it fit into its surroundings..

Nick Stevens, chairman of Freshford Parish Council, says: “The council is delighted that the mill has been purchased by Environ and that for the first time in years the opportunity now exists for the development to be both improved and then completed.

“We look forward to working alongside Environ and wholly support the wish of the company to work in close collaboration with local residents. In this way we are all able to contribute to the process and it should go a long way towards ensuring that the finished development quickly becomes an integral part of the village and one of which we can all be proud.”

Some of the new homes will come complete with underfloor heating and statement fireplaces, and a high-tech feature which will allow large wall-mounted televisions to be converted into mirrors when not in use.

The mill is located within ten minutes’ walk from Freshford train station, where residents can catch a train directly to Bath city centre within a few minutes. It is also located within easy reach of the M4 and M5 and is just a 45-minute drive from Bristol airport.

The picturesque village has a good primary school, a café, pub and shop.
