Top of the Props: Our pick of the best new homes for sale in Cardiff

Posted 16 April 2015 by Keith Osborne

At the end of 2014, not one but two plans to regenerate an important part of Cardiff city centre were unveiled.

The first proposes a makeover for the city’s Central Station. The Foster & Partners plans suggest retaining the station’s art deco façade and providing the area with a new public square, multi-storey car park, offices and shops. Central Square has been chosen for the preferred new headquarters of BBC Wales.

The other is a £500m scheme to transform a derelict riverside site at Dumballs Road, which will include 2,150 homes, a new primary school, shops and restaurants in addition to a new bridge across the River Taff. The homes will be a mix of open-market units and affordable housing.

The developer says this project will create over 3,000 construction jobs over the next six years and inject more than £1bn into the local economy. Around 1,000 full time jobs in the commercial, retail and accommodation sectors will eventually be supported by the scheme.

In fact, City of Cardiff Council boasts of some 57 projects that have been completed within the city since 2000/2001, including improvements to homes and amenities in West Adamsdown and North Grangetown.

Acorn Cardiff – Cathedral House, Pontcanna

This office conversion provides 20 two-bedroom apartments and one penthouse in one of Cardiff’s best residential areas, with higher floors enjoying great city views.

The Pontcanna region, affectionately known as the 'Chelsea of Cardiff', was recently described by the Daily Telegraph as one of the trendiest spots in the UK. On the outer fringes of Pontcanna, within an important conservation area, lies Cathedral House.

This residential setting delivers beautiful Victorian townhouses, mature trees and neatly trimmed hedgerows all adding to the authentic kerb appeal. Sophia Gardens, the River Taff, Cardiff Castle and the Millennium Stadium are moments away and almost all that the city has to offer is within walking distance.

The properties will be ready for occupation in the summer of 2015. Prices start at £250,000.
