New homes in the best-performing cities in the UK

Posted 11 November 2015 by Keith Osborne

PwC's annual report on the success of Britain's cities reveals a host of thriving new homes markets for buy-to-let investors to consider...

Homebuyers – investors in particular – weigh up a number of factors when deciding where to buy a home. Global professional services company PwC has undertaken its annual Good Growth for Cities Index, looking in detail at how Britain’s cities and conurbations fare in areas such as employment, health, wellbeing, housing affordability and income.

These places are bound to attract the interest of property investors and each offers an array of new homes for sale to suit different tastes and budgets. Here, we look at the top ten in the survey, some of which may surprise you, as will the absence of some other places.

The top five haven’t changed since last year’s Index, but the order in which they appear has. The report says: “These high-income, highy skilled cities not only maintained their positions but appear to have created some clear water from the other cities in our index. Despite the slight ordering change, this continuity suggests structural, long-term success factors for these cities.”

These have been some noteworthy changes outside the top ten, too. “A few cities have also improved significantly, notably Newcastle & Durham and Bradford as well as Cardiff”, says the report, “driven by large employment gains and supported by other components such as improvements to transport and health.”

Here’s the top ten in ascending order, with our pick of new homes for sale in each.
